Twelve year old Manic and Sonic came home from the park with the usual scrapes and bruises all over their arms and legs. They carried their skateboards under their arms.

Their sister Sonia followed them.

“That was awesome.” Manic said, grinning. “We should totally get some shopping carts and roll down the hill next time.”

Sonic laughed. “Definitely, little bro.”

Sonia ruffled her brothers’ head spines, revealing a bruise above Manic’s left eyebrow. “Just don’t forget your safety gear next time.”

Aleena opened the door for them. “What have you three been up to?”

“Nothing, Ma.” Manic said. “Just the usual.”

Sonia held her phone up. “I filmed it.”

Aleena motioned to the ice cream stains on the boys’ shirts. “I hope you saved room for lunch.” She replied. “I made chili dogs.”

Manic and Sonic rushed into the house while Sonia walked in.

Aleena followed the boys inside and shut the door behind them. “No running in the house.”

“Sorry, Mom.” Sonic said.

“I’m sorry.” Manic said.

“Go clean up first, I’ll get your plates ready.” Aleena replied.

That afternoon, Sonic, Sonia, and Manic sat on their living room floor as they played a video game together.

Aleena stepped into the room. “Kids, that’s enough for today.”

Sonic dropped the controller onto his lap, then pumped his fists. “I win!”

“We’ll rematch later, bro.” Manic said, saving the game. He turned the game system off.

“Don’t forget we’re shopping for school supplies tomorrow.” Aleena said, sitting on the armchair.

Manic and Sonic groaned while Sonia squealed.

“Well, can we play in the arcade while you and Sonia shop and after we pick out our clothes?” Sonic asked. “Please?”

“Yeah, please?” Manic asked.

“Okay as long as you two stay there until I come and get you.” Aleena replied.

“That’s fair.” Sonic and Manic said.
