Sonic, along with his seven year old twins River and Lola, met up with Manic at the park.

Sonic let go of his kids’ hands. “Go play.”

River and Lola ran toward the playground where Manic’s nine year old twins Glitch and Cyber were playing.

Sonic sat down on the bench next to Manic.

Manic handed Sonic a coffee cup. “You’re gonna need this.”

“Thanks, bro.” Sonic replied.

“Did you hear from Ma?” Manic asked.

“No, why?” Sonic asked.

“Ma’s having a Christmas party and Princess Sonia is gonna grace us with her presence this year.” Manic replied.

“Still?” Sonic asked. “It’s been a while since either of us have spoken to her.”

Manic sighed. “I know, but Ma got on my nerves about it.” He replied. “All because we’re finally going to see her baby. Like it’s a big deal that she had a baby. We both had twins; I got another one on the way.”

Sonic spit out his coffee. “What?”

“Oh, man, I’m sorry.” Manic said, smacking his hand over his face. “I thought I told you. I guess we only told the kids.”

“It’s okay, I know it’s been a crazy month.” Sonic replied. “So are you going to the party?”

“Yeah, I am.” Manic said.

“Guess I will too.” Sonic replied.

Manic sipped his coffee. “I just can’t stand hearing Ma say we need to be the bigger Mobian about it.”

“I know.” Sonic said. “She’s the one who barely calls.”

Manic checked his watch and sighed. “Ah, man, we hadn’t been here long.” He said, typing a response.

Sonic glanced at Manic. “What?”

“Surge is hungry and wants tacos from the one place that doesn’t deliver to our neighborhood.” Manic said, getting up. “I’ll see you at the Christmas party, it’s on Christmas Eve at one.”

“See you.” Sonic replied.

~a week later~

Sonic and Manic walked up the driveway of Aleena and Uncle Chuck’s home with their families.

“I’m glad they got this little cottage instead.” Manic said. “The old driveway at the duplex was too small for stuff like this.”

Surge huffed. “Stop the world, her royal highness showed up.” She muttered.

Manic leaned closer to Surge. “Babe, the kids are right here.”

Sonia and Shadow got out of their black and red car.

Shadow held his and Sonia’s three week old daughter Maria.

Sonia ran over and hugged Manic and Sonic.

“Uh, hi, sis?” Sonic asked.

“Did we step into the Twilight Zone?” Manic asked.

Sonia laughed weakly. “No, I just missed you two.”

Aleena opened the door. “Come on, we have dinner ready.”

Sonic, Sonia, and Manic sat in the living room while Sally, Uncle Chuck, and Aleena were in the kitchen.

Surge battled the kids in a nerf gun fight in the backyard while Shadow put Maria down for a nap in Aleena’s bedroom.

“Your kids are so cute, bros.” Sonia said.

“Thanks, sis.” Manic and Sonic replied.

“Maria is pretty cute.” Manic said.

“She looks a lot like her dad.” Sonic added.

“I’m really sorry.” Sonia said. “I would’ve apologized a long time ago, but I was ashamed and… it’s been a rough few years.”

“I forgive you, sis.” Manic replied.

“I forgive you too.” Sonic said. “I appreciate it and… I think I speak for Manic when I say this, but what kept you so busy you couldn’t call for a few minutes?”

Manic nodded.

Sonia rubbed her arms. “Well, at first, I was embarrassed about letting peer pressure get to me while we were in school and until my friends drifted during college.” She replied. “I had been working up the nerve to apologize.”

Manic rubbed the back of his neck. “But you could’ve done that instead of making remarks to Surge before Glitch and Cyber were born.”

“I guess you would take a text wrong, given how I treated you.” Sonia said. “I was genuinely concerned because I know it’s not always easy to make a living in music. I’ve been following you two and you’re amazing.”

“Thanks, sis.” Sonic and Manic replied.

Sonia took a sip of tea. “I hope we can all get together more often now,” She said. “Shadow finally we retired from GUN, so we can move back here instead of traveling around whenever he needs to.”

“They ship you around?” Manic asked.

“Yeah, about like the army.” Sonia replied. “I had a hard time calling because of the time differences, but it was cool seeing all of Mobius.”

“We haven’t even seen all of Mobius.” Sonic said. “So… you’re here to stay?”

“Yeah, we just got a nice house a few blocks away.” Sonia replied.

“We’re looking for a keyboard player.” Manic said. “If you can still play, you’re in. We’ll introduce you on our podcast.”

Sonia hugged Manic and Sonic. “Aww, thank you.”

Aleena stepped into the room. “Dinner’s ready.” She called. “Aww, my babies are getting along.”

Sonic, Sonia, and Manic got up.

“Aw, Mom, we’re not babies.” Sonic said, leading the way to the kitchen.

“You’re still my babies.” Aleena replied.
