Surge had avoided Manic’s pleas for help on the project for a few days by claiming she had to work (on a day she didn’t have to work) or that Kit was sick (he wasn’t).
She laid on the couch, watching old episodes of Malcolm in the Middle on the tv.
Surge looked at Kit as he sat down at the desk, where their phones were charging. “If Manic calls, tell him I’m sick.”
“Why?” Kit asked.
“We’d just fail the class if I have to keep Hip.” Surge replied. “He’s better at this than I am.”
“It doesn’t sound fair, ma’am.” Kit said, swiveling the chair to face Surge.
“He’s- stop calling me that.” Surge replied. “Anyway, he’s better than me at taking care of a baby.”
“It still doesn’t seem fair, ma’am.” Kit said.
Surge threw a throw pillow at Kit. “Stop that!”
“S- sorry. I’m sorry.” Kit said, narrowly avoiding being hit by the pillow. He turned back to the computer. “Wanna watch me play Placid Plastic Duck simulator?”
Surge got up and looked over Kit’s shoulder. “It’s a glorified screensaver.” She said, tilting her head slightly. “What’s so- oh, the purple duck is going up the slide.”
Surge and Kit cheered as the duck slid down the slide and flew across the pool into a little crowd of ducks.

Manic, Sonic, and Sonia sat down on the couch to watch a movie while their dolls napped.
Manic sighed. “Surge is ignoring my texts now instead of answering me with lame excuses.” He said, setting his phone down. “She told me Kit was sick yesterday, yet I saw him at the bookstore talking to Tails.”
“Then go to her house and talk to her.” Sonia replied.
“Yeah, bro.” Sonic said. “Complaining to us won’t solve anything.”
“It just brings up some questions.” Manic replied. “Is she gonna do this when we have kids one day?”
Sonic turned the tv off. “Does she want kids?”
“I hadn’t seen her to be able to ask her.” Manic replied. He groaned. “She and Kit are playing some game called Placid Plastic Duck simulator according to their Discord profiles. I’m gonna talk to her. I should be home before dinner.”
“Be careful.” Sonic and Sonia said.
Manic got up and picked up his keys. “I’ll try.”
