Shadow held his and Sonia’s seven month old daughter Maria while Sonia laid some flowers on Rouge’s grave.
“Happy birthday, Rouge.” Sonia said. “Don’t worry about Shadow. I’m taking care of him.”
Shadow nodded.
Sonia stepped back to stand beside Shadow.
Shadow slipped his hand into Sonia’s hand. “Happy birthday, Rouge.”
Maria whimpered.
Shadow glanced at Maria. “It’s probably her nap time.”
“I think so too.” Sonia said.
Shadow and Sonia walked away.
“Thanks.” Shadow said.
“She was important to you.” Sonia replied. “I don’t see where it’ll hurt to show respect.”
Shadow nodded.
Sonia opened the car door.
Shadow set Maria into the car seat, then buckled her in and closed the door. He hugged Sonia.
“I love you too.” Sonia said, hugging Shadow back.
Shadow and Sonia got into the car.
“Where do you want me to get takeout?” Shadow asked.
“Tacos sound good.” Sonia replied.
Shadow started the car and drove away. “Sounds good to me.”
