Chapter 50: Discovered!
Luna hopped off of Creb. The mood was spoiled for both of them.
“Luna!” exclaimed Iga, again, as she stepped forward.
Luna stood up and faced her Priestess. In her previous life, Iga had founded a religion with Luna as her Goddess. Attempts to dissuade her were seen as tests of faith by Iga. And Iga remembered that life too.
“Iga, it’s not what it looks like,” cautioned Luna.
“This is the Luna you told this boy of?” Brok signed. “This is the Mother of all that walks the Earth in the form of a woman?”
“I’m not a Goddess, I’m just a Witch,” soothed Luna.
“Praise Luna! You have returned to us!” proclaimed Iga as she knelt before Luna. Brok quickly followed suit and also knelt to Luna.
“Get up! Stop that!” scolded Luna. “I’m just an ordinary woman.”
Just then, the polyjuice potion wore off and she was transformed back into Uba.
“O Mer in! What a time for this to happen!” Uba signed.
“Uba has been hiding amongst us the whole time!” proclaimed Iga, as she bowed before Luna. Brok bowed too.
Creb made the “Look at me” sound, then signed at her when she looked at him:
“She’s not entirely wrong.”
“You didn’t see the tortures she went through out of faith in this woman,” signed Uba. “This woman doesn’t want her to go through that again.”
Uba put her hand under Iga’s chin and lifted up, trying to get her out of the bow. When she got Iga upright, she gave her a deep kiss, then stepped away so she could sign:
‘This woman considers you a friend,” signed Uba. “This woman is no more a Goddess than you. Please continue to be this woman’s friend as you have been in the past. This woman needs no worshipers.”
“Yes Luna,” signed Iga.
“And don’t call this woman Luna when she looks like this,” signed Uba. “When this woman looks like this, she is Uba, daughter of Iza, Medicine Woman, clanluna and weech of the Clan.”
“Yes Uba,” signed Iga.
‘Now, I believe the Clanluna brought Brok here for a reason?” Uba signed.
“Yes, this Clanluna brought him here as his redfoot,” signed Iga.
“What did this woman tell you about signing when we were dead?” Uba signed. “Just because this woman can’t speak all sounds in this form, doesn’t mean you should sign. Especially when you are redfooting. You have such a pretty voice . . . it gives this woman Needs. Does it do the same for you, Brok?”
He nodded his head yes.
“Her voice gives this man Needs too,” signed Creb.
“I’ll Relieve them when I get back to the cave,” said Iga, as she stood up and motioned for Brok to do the same.
“Perhaps we should do some actual hunting,” signed Uba, as she and Creb put their wraps back on and grabbed their weapons.
As they walked away, Iga took Brok by the hand and led him to the spot where Luna and Creb had been, thrilled to Share Pleasures in the same spot as her Goddess.
Uba and Creb managed to bring down a couple of wolverines in their hunt. Then, returned to the cave.
Uba was working the hide of the wolverine when Iga and Brok returned to the cave. Iga parted ways with Brok and walked over to Uba.
“Do you want this woman to break off break off her mating with Creb so that you can be his mate?” Iga signed.
“No. It is enough to know that you are willing to let this woman Share Pleasures with him,” signed Uba. “And this woman likes knowing that he has such a good mate to care care of him. Besides, this woman already has a mate.”
“This woman could trade mates with you,” signed Iga. “This woman could be Bar’s mate and you could be Creb’s mate again.”
“No. You spoke truth when you talked sense into this woman,” signed Uba. “Most of what this woman wants from being mated to him, she can already have, without being mated to him.”
Over the next few days, word of Iga’s discovery spread. And now the whole Clan was looking at Uba differently.
“This makes this woman understand what you went through when we were at school,” signed Uba. “Was it this bad for you?”
“Yes,” signed Harr. “The admiration was a side of the same slab (coin) as the vilification that came later”
“This man was surprised to be invited hunting by you,” signed Harr. “You and Creb and Iga have seemed so happy together lately.”
“Just because because this woman loves Creb and Iga, does not make this woman love you and Ayla any less,” signed Uba.
“This man supposes,” signed Harr.
“It’s like when you, this woman and Hermi were all together,” signed Uba. “Loving Hemi did not make this woman or Hermi love you any less.”
It was early autumn when first Ayla’s, then Iga’s babies were born. Ayla named her 1/2 Clan daughter Lili, after Harr’s mother. Iga named her 1/2 Clan son, Oud.
Droona became a woman and in was mated to Brag.
Soon winter came upon them and the Clan settled in to tell stories, work on crafts, study magic, and Share with each other.
Ayla’s daughter: Durciza was not quite mature enough for for wand magic. But she had, by now, learned to read and write and Ayla was teaching her both potions and healing. Her other children were too young to even start trying to learn to read.
Uba tried to teach reading and math to Vub, but as a Clan boy, he found both too difficult for him to pick up.
The Cave Bear still lived in the adjoining cave. Zeen riding on his back had become a familiar sight over the summer. But now that winter was here, she spent her time sleeping.
By the time mid-winter arrived, Ayla and Iga were recovered enough from the births to participate in a Winter Festival. Many of the older men were bowing out of it, but allowing their mates to participate. The Winter Festival had become an event that catered to the unmated men more than the ones who had mates. Harr debated with himself about whether or not to participate. In the end, he decided to attend a special men’s ceremony that Zeen was holding at Creb’s hearth, because his mate’s son Grar would want to use Zeen’s hearth with the woman that picked him at the Mother Festival.
For the Winter Festival, the drumming was provided by the boys and girls that were a year or two short of adulthood. It was a different rhythm than the one used for women’s ceremonies but still played on an upturned wooden bowl. The young children at all been put to bed. In the center of the cave, the men and women who would be participating began to dance. At Creb’s hearth, the men watched this and passed a bowl of a bitter tea around.
“What is this?” signed Harr.
“Something Iga made,” signed Creb. “It’s different from the one she made the dancers.”
“Does it bother you that Iga will soon be Sharing Pleasures with another man?” Harr signed.
“Why would it bother this man?” Creb signed. “She Shares with this man as much as he wants. Her Sharing with others does not make her Share with this man any less.”
“That’s how this man feels about Ayla,” signed Harr. “It seems strange to this man because of the time he came from. But knowing that Ayla is enjoying herself with another man doesn’t bother this man. In fact, it kind of gives this man Needs.”
By now, the ground was glowing with an weird iridescent blue light.
“It is time,” signed Zeen. “Let us close our eyes.”
Harr closed his eyes and felt Zeen’s mind contact his. He saw his memories zoom by with a clarity that was greater than he was used to. Then he saw his father’s memories and his father’s. He continued going back until he reached his common ancestor with the Clan. Now he felt himself merging with the other men into one being, and amalgam of them all. Even with his eyes closed he could see the other men sitting around the fire. They rose up out of their bodies and through the ceiling of the cave to emerge in a multicolored lit realm where visions of various things floated by. Harr became aware of the sounds that Ayla made during Pleasures and saw her Sharing herself with Brok, one of the young men of the Clan. That floated by and he saw a Cave Bear wave a greeting as he floated by. He saw Iga Sharing with Zag as he floated by them. Then he saw Uba Sharing herself with Grar. She transformed into Luna, then split into two Lunas. One was still Sharing Pleasures with Grar. The other floated up to face him.
“She still loves you as much as ever,” said Luna, as she indicated the other Luna, who transformed multiple times into Ayla, Hermione, Ginny, Iga, Uba and back to Luna.
The Luna speaking to him grew to enormous size and picked him up. He was like a baby compared to her. As if sensing his thoughts, the large Luna picked him up like he was a baby and held him to her breast.
“Are you really Iga’s Great Mother of us all?” asked Harry. “Is Iga right about you?”
Large Luna laughed at him.
“All women are a manifestation of the Great Mother,” replied Luna.
She gently set him down and he felt himself pulled back to his body.
Harr opened his eyes to see the other men looking back at him. The drumming had stopped and the sounds of Pleasures could no longer be heard in the cave. Iga was returning to Creb’s hearth, carrying her youngest and followed by her oldest son. Harr decided it was time to return to his own hearth. The other men seemed to have the same idea.
Harr made it back to his hearth shortly before Ayla arrived, holding baby Lili to her breast and followed by their other two children. Like Iga, Ayla was wearing a satisfied smile that lit up even more at the sight of Harr.
“Did you enjoy yourself last night?” Harr signed.
“Oh yes! Very much,” signed Ayla. “Brok was very good at Pleasures. Iga has trained him well. How was your men’s ceremony?”
“It was quite enlightening,” signed Harr.
“Sharing herself with Brok made this woman want to Share herself more,” signed Ayla. “Would you like to give your mate the Signal?”
“This man is always in happy to have you Share yourself with him,” signed Harr. “But perhaps we should have the morning meal first. This man will help you prepare it.”
“This woman feels very lucky to have a mate you can help with women’s tasks when the need arrises,” signed Ayla.
