Chapter 49: Bathing Beauty
After Creb guided Luna back to the present, they opened their eyes and gazed at each other. Iga, seeing that the ceremony was over, offered Creb, then Uba a cup of tea she had brewed while they had been going back through the memories.
“Go get Ayla,” signed Creb. “This is something that she needs to see too.”
Creb and Uba continued to gaze at each other.
“This woman has been telling you so,” signed Uba. “And now that this woman has her Clan memories, this woman guesses that she is Uba too.”
Iga and Ayla arrived and sat down around the fire.
“The other men have been calling you clanlunae: female mog-urs,” signed Creb the Mog-Ur. “This Mog-Ur now knows that this is true. This Mog-Ur will start training you as mog-urs, not to perform ceremonies for the Clan. The men of the Clan would never allow one of you to participate in a men’s ceremony. But you can have your own ceremonies where you enter the spirit world. This Mog-Ur will show you how.”
“This woman is not worthy of this honor you bestow,” signed Ayla. “This woman just wants to be an ordinary Clan Medicine Woman.”
“You will never be just ordinary,” signed Iga, as Creb and Uba nodded with her.
“If we are going to do this, Vara should be a part of it too,” signed Ayla. “She is a clanluna too.”
“You are right,” signed Uba.
“Tell her where the men can not see,” signed Creb. “For now, Uba and this Mog-Ur need to rest and recover. We will speak more of this later.”
After they departed, Uba went to Bar’s hearth to find that Ayla had already prepared a morning meal for her family. So Viza was the only one she needed to feed. After that, she took a nap while her mate and son go on with their day.
When Uba woke, she was alone in the furs. It was around noon. So, she decided to bathe and do some flying. Going to Harr’s hearth, she retrieved the Nimbus broom from Luna’s trunk and some of Ayla’s warming potion. She then, walked down to the river, took off her wrap and waded into the water. She washed herself thoroughly, only to find Groob standing on the bank watching her.
Groob was one of the men who had no mate. He lived at the hearth of his mother’s mate, Grod. While his mother could perform the women’s tasks that he didn’t have the memories for. When it came to Relieving his Needs, he had to turn to the clanlunae for that. Iga had initially assigned Uba only one unmated man to take care of. But as the season progressed, along with Ayla’s and Iga’s pregnancies, Uba found herself taking on more and more of this duty. Although and man of the Others would think both Ayla and Iga were spectacularly beautiful, the men of the Clan preferred Clan women like Vara and Uba. But Vara was 28 years old. This gave her the appearance of a 56 year old woman. The men preferred her over Ayla and Iga. But Uba, at 10, looked like a 20-year-old woman. This made her the hot young woman that all the men wanted to Relieve their Needs.
Knowing what he wanted, Uba used her sexiest redfoot walk to wade out of the water. She could see the desire for her in his eyes. She walked up to him and put her arms around his neck. He leaned forward and kissed her.
After they finished Sharing Pleasures, Uba signed:
“This clanluna needs to wash the dirt off of her again. After this woman is clean, will you stay and rub this warming potion on her?”
Groob nodded his agreement and watched her bathe again. Uba took her time and tried to make watching her a pleasurable experience for him. Once she was clean, she waded back out of the water. She then let Groob rub her all over with the warming potion. She was unsurprised that he concentrated on certain areas.
Now that is was all over her, she kissed him on the cheek and straddled the broom, before taking off into the sky. She flew around a while, made a few circuits of the area the cave was in, made a few dives, but didn’t come as close to the ground as Harr did when he flew. Finally, she landed back by the river, put her wrap back on and carried the broom and potion back to Harr’s hearth to put them away.
Broud had decided for this hunt, none of the men would be using the traditional Clan method with thrusting spears. Instead they would be picking the herd of wooly rhinos from a distance. Ayla and the men were prepared to use sling magic. Iga had decided not to attend this hunt. Her throwing spears required her to get closer than they were going to. Ayla, Uba and Creb stayed with the women, to protect them. The other men were fanning out to hit them with there slings. All of the men at this hunt were skilled in sling magic and could kill at quite a distance. Uba had engraved runes on her arrow heads. The runes combined with some magic that she channeled down the arrow as she drew them, would allow her to cast a full-body bind on anything she hit with the arrow. She notched an arrow and waited. . . . When Broud started swinging his sling in a circle to wind up, that would be the signal for the others to do the same. When Broud started winding, Uba drew her longbow and released her arrow, she drew and released another, and another.
“STOP!” shouted Broud, in one of the few purely spoken Clan words. They had enough for now.
Three of the wooly rhinos were down, the rest were running away. All three had Uba’s arrows in them. One had penetrated the heart, another had penetrated the eye and the last rhino was still alive with an arrow in it’s shoulder, but was unable to move. Uba ran up to it and cut it’s throat. The other men were not far behind her. Broud cut out the hearts of the rhinos and buried them where they fell, the cut out the livers and shared them amongst Uba, Ayla and the men. As she ate her piece of liver Uba signed at Broud.
“This woman-who-hunts finds this kind of hunting not challenging enough. Could this woman-who-hunts be permitted to learn to hunt with a Clan spear?”
Broud stared at her for a long time. Finally he signed:
“This Leader will consider it.”
After that, the subject was debated amongst the men many times. It was a turn of the moon before she got an answer:
“This Leader has spoken with the men and the other women-who-hunt,” signed Bround. “You are the only woman who wants to hunt with a Clan spear. You will be permitted to train to use a spear. Next year, you will be allowed to use one for a hunt. If you are successful, you will continue to be allowed to use one.”
Several day’s later, Uba invited Creb hunting. He has started going out hunting with the clanlunae one at a time where, out of the site of the men of the Clan, he would instruct them on what they needed to know to navigate the spirit world next time they did a mog-ur ceremony together. It was so with Uba. He told her many things she need to know about the spirit world as they wandered towards their favorite spot in the woods. When they arrived, Creb stopped the lesson by giving her the signal. Uba pulled out a vial of polyjuice potion that she had preloaded with a Luna hair. She drank the potion and transformed into Luna.
Luna and Creb were Sharing Pleasures in the position he had favored in his previous life, with her on top, bouncing on him. She was getting close and her Need was nearly Relieved when she heard Iga’s voice:
“Luna!”
Luna opened her eyes and turned to see Iga and Brok, the boy she had been redfooting all summer, staring at them.
