Two sailors find a chain that was associated with a ghost sighting. The chain disappears four hours after it was created.

My Ghost Story-Chapter Two
There was a man who was a sailor on board a cargo ship, years ago. He died, when he was aboard the ship, and he became a ghost. He had a strange obsession with his own death, and he seemed to recreate his own death, over an over, time after time. Before we get to that, let me explain how he died. The ship had an old-fashioned steam engine, this was many years ago, before steam engines were replaced with more modern diesel engines. There was a problem with the engine, and it seemed that the ship’s boiler was going to explode. The pressure was building, and it was only a matter of time before the steam pressure ruptured the steel wall of the boiler. The resulting explosion could sink the ship. The captain ordered all the sailors on the ship to prepare for the worst, but there wasn’t much they could do. One man decided to get a chain and use the chain to secure some boxes of cargo in the cargo hold, so he got a chain and he was walking down the hallway on his way to the cargo hold when the explosion tore the wall apart. He was killed instantly. He turned into a ghost, right after he was killed.
Incredibly, the ship didn’t sink. They managed to get some tug boats to tow the damaged ship back to port, and they repaired it. Soon, the ship was back in service. The ghost of the dead sailor haunted the ship. He usually made himself invisible, so nobody could see him, but there were those moments when he was fully visible, like he had never died. Although he accepted the fact that he had died and he had turned into a ghost, he developed an obsession with his own death, and he felt compelled to re-enact it.
He often walked down the same hallway, thinking ‘this is the hallway where I was killed’. He would walk past the exact spot where the explosion had occurred, and he would say to himself, ‘I was right here, I was walking right here, next to this wall, then there was an explosion and I was killed.’ He remembered that he had something in his hand when he was killed. It was a chain. He had a chain in his hand and he was dragging the chain behind him as he walked down the hallway. He decided to make a chain. He waved his hand and magically created a chain. A small amount of ghost energy that was in his body was instantly transformed into a chain. He held one end of the chain and walked down the hallway, dragging the chain behind him.
Somebody heard him. He was not alone on this ship. After the ship had been repaired, they got a new crew and they were back in business. A member of the new crew heard him. He said to his friend, ‘Hey, did you hear that?” His friend said, “Yeah, it sounded like it came from out in the hallway”. Both of the sailors left the room and they went out into the hallway to see what the noise was. They were astonished to see a man, walking down the hallway, and he was dragging a chain behind him. One sailor yelled, “Hey, who are you? How did you get in here?” The ghost didn’t want to talk to them, so he disappeared. The chain fell from his hand at the moment he disappeared. The two sailors ran up to the spot where they had seen the man, and they looked at the chain that was laying on the floor. They looked around, but they couldn’t see a trace of the man who had been dragging the chain. They picked up the chain and they took it to the captain’s office. They knocked on the captain’s door, and he said ‘Come in’. The two sailors explained the whole story to the captain. After they were done, they laid the chain on the captain’s desk. The captain frowned. He really didn’t believe that they were saying. Were they trying to tell him that they had seen a ghost? There two men were good men, they were men you could trust, but the captain couldn’t believe the story they were telling him. He told the men that it was unlikely that a trespasser could have gotten onboard the ship, but he told the men that he would look into it. Then he told them to go back to their quarters. Both men said “Yes, sir” and they left the captain alone in his office.
After the two men left, the captain sat alone, and he looked at the chain that the sailors had left on his desk. He picked it up, and he examined it closely. It was a chain, all right, it was heavy, it was made of metal, it was real, but the captain could not have possibly realized that the chain was made of ghost energy. The captain set the chain down on his desk and he started to read a book. After a few hours, the chain disappeared. The captain was stunned by this. The book he was reading dropped from his hands. He looked at the top of his desk, where the chain had been, but he could see that the chain was gone. It had vanished. The captain looked closely at the top of his desk, and he could not see any trace of the chain, there wasn’t any residue, there wasn’t any ashes, there wasn’t even a speck of dust.
The captain called the two sailors back into his office and he told them what had happened. He told them “The chain that you left on my desk disappeared”. The three men discussed it, but none of them had any explanation for what had happened. I have a theory about the chain. The chain vanished exactly four hours after it was created. I propose that the chain was created with ghost energy, but the amount of ghost energy in the chain became weaker and weaker during a four-hour period. Finally, the chain ran out of energy, and it disappeared. The objects that are created by ghosts don’t exist permanently. They exist only for about four hours, then they run out of energy and they disappear. The ghosts themselves don’t live forever. A ghost has enough ghost energy in his body to live for years, or maybe for a few decades, but finally, the ghost runs out of energy and disappears.
