There were shadows throughout the park as it had now turned into an early fall California evening. And the coolness was abundant in the air as well. It was a coolness that could chill to the bone if one was not careful.
Buffy sat on the swings, waiting. And she had been waiting for over an hour. Spike had said that he would meet her there but that was quite some time ago. And she was starting to wonder if he was having second thoughts. Like did he really want to give her a second chance. She had been kinda childish. But he had been holding something back. She sighed heavily and stood up.
"Given up on me now are ya?" The deep familiar voice stopped the blond in her tracks. "Sorry, pet. Just had trouble gettin past the guards at the prison. And that's usually a piece of cake for me."
"It's all right." Buffy came and stood in front of her ex but hopefully her current boyfriend. "I kinda well let's just say that I haven't made it easy on you. I could tell that there was something you were holding back. And instead of giving you time to deal with it, I demanded you tell me. I understand why you didn't want to talk to me."
"Balderdash." Spike wrapped his arms around his girl. She was his girl again. And it felt so good and so right. In his arms is where she belonged. He sighed heavily. "This feels so good and right. But we do have to talk pet. And it's not gonna be easy to hear. It isn't easy to deal with."
Buffy pulled back from the pleasing embrace. "You can tell me anything. I'm here for you. That's what two people do when they are in a relationship. They are there for one another no matter what."
Spike nodded. "Listen, the thing of it is, Drusilla is the one that was drivin the car that hit Willow." Buffy's eyes widened considerably. Before she could say anything, he continued. "It was Angel's car that she was drivin. That's where he comes in. I come in 'cause I figured out, well I thought I figured out, that it was his big badness that was the one that did the damage. But than he explained and well, I felt so bad that I had let Drusilla down. And now, she's gone and well we don't know what to do."
Tears had formed in Buffy's eyes. She knew how much pain that her boyfriend was in. And he was right, now that Drusilla was gone, what was the point? If anyone found out, Angel and Spike could both be facing the law. And what was the point of that? "I won't tell anyone. We'll figure out what to do. But at least you now got me to talk to. Anytime."
The bleach blond looked down into Buffy's eyes. He gently wiped the tears from her face. "And that's all I need, now isn't it my girl?" He leaned down and the kissed rather passionately.
The air had turned cold and so the little picnic had been moved to the inside of Oz's van. The couple were sharing various little sandwiches, chocolate covered strawberries, and sliced apples. They were even feeding one another. And enjoying being wrapped up in a blanket together.
"Not that I'm not lovin this, but weren't you supposed to be playin tonight?" Faith smiled as a little bit of chocolate syrup ran down her boyfriend's chin. "Let me get that for you." She leaned in and licked the trail of chocolate up to his lips. Which ignited a passionate kiss that they both gladly partook in.
"Wow!" the guy with orange hair managed to say. "And I asked to be excused. Told them I had a hot date. Reminded them that I was gonna be gone for a while and wanted some alone time with you." Again, their lips were meeting. Passions were beginning to run very high at this point.
Faith rolled herself on top of her boyfriend. She began to rub her body against his. He gently put both his hands on her shoulders to make her stop. "What? You not likin?"
Oz smiled at her. "Likin a lot. But I think we should wait. And it's not that I don't want to. You're too special to me for me to rush into anything. I don't want to just jump into bed with you. I want to take this slow." She turned away from him. He gently turned her face back to look at him. "I love you. And I want to treat you with respect and dignity. You deserve that much. You deserve everything I can give you. And I want to make love to you, not just have sex."
There was now a smile on Faith's face. She had never been treated this good by a guy before. All the guys that she had been with were mostly just in it for the chase. As soon as they got what they had wanted, they were out of there. But not with Oz. He truly seemed to be there for the long term. How had she gotten so damn lucky. "I love you too. And this next month is gonna be pure hell. Maybe I'll be able to hit some of the spots you're playin."
"Maybe." Oz leaned back against the wall of the van and Faith laid her head on his chest. "I could stay like this forever you know. Just holding you."
Again, there was that smile. "This isn't so bad. In fact, I think it's pretty damn good. Thank you." They stayed like that til both of them fell asleep.
The Bronze was quite the happening place. In fact, Xander and Anya were having trouble finding a place on the dance floor it was so packed. They were just having a good ole time when the crowd parted and two familiar faces came towards them. One being pushed in her wheelchair.
"Tara! Willow!" Xander stopped dancing and made his way over to his best friend and her girlfriend. "Not that I'm not glad to see you, but what are you doing here?"
"Well, I have to go back to the hospital tomorrow." Willow got a sad look on her face. "Uncle Giles finally broke down and told me what the doctors said. I need surgery to repair my back. So I'm going under the knife tomorrow. Not liking that much. But he said that I needed a night of freedom. And well Tara and I agreed."
"Hence, why I'm here." Tara smiled and leaned down and placed little kisses on the redhead's neck. "I get her for the night. We thought you might be here so we'd have fun. Have you seen any of the others?"
Xander shook his head. "No one else. Oz's band is even playing but he's a no show. Everyone else must be lust bunnies."
"Xander." Willow shook her head. "Just because they aren't here doesn't mean anything. But who knows." She sighed heavily.
That's when there was a shout from somewhere from the back. The band had just taken a break so they could actually hear what was being said. "Hey look everyone, it's two queers. And one of them is crippled. How fitting is that."
Willow's face paled immediately. Tara put her hand on her shoulder immediately. Here was the next round of pick on the two lesbians. They were getting quite used to this by now.
"Would you shut the hell up!" A very familiar voice echoed throughout The Bronze. The four stood with their mouths literally hanging open as the familiar voice came out of the crowd with Doyle by her side. Cordelia glared at the guy that had shouted at Willow and Tara. "What's the matter? You got something wrong with two people in love. 'Cause if you do what does that say about you? Probably that you can't get you any. And how disgusting is it that you want to pick on a girl in a wheelchair. Now that is jut plain sick and pathetic."
"Hey, didn't you used to be cool?" The guy shot back. "You used to think the same way."
"Yeah, I did." Cordelia took a couple steps towards the guy, Doyle right behind her. "But I grew a brain. And who gives a rat's behind if you think I'm cool. I know I am. But it's not because I have money or dress nice. It's because I realized something. People are of the good no matter how they look or how they dress or who their parents are. You though are just a plain dumb jerk and I feel sorry for your momma."
The guy stared at Cordelia. He shook his head and headed towards the exit of The Bronze. The crowd broke into a cheer at the words that the formerly spoiled rich girl had said. She just shook her head.
"Not that I'm not grateful, but why?" It was Willow that asked the question. "You've been like torturing me since I was like in elementary school. And now, you actually stood up for me? What exactly gives?"
Cordelia shrugged. "Let's just say that someone good and decent opened my eyes to how I'd been acting." She put her arm through Doyle's. "So, how are you feeling Willow. Anything I can do for you?"
Willow smiled. "You did a whole lot already. Thanks. And I'm goin in for surgery tomorrow. So there's not much you can do for me at the moment."
Cordelia sighed. "I'm sorry. Have they figured out who the moron was that was behind the wheel?"
Willow shook her head. "And they now think they'll never know. But that's all right. What's done is done. It's time to live life for the most." She turned to Tara. "Care to dance?"
"Thought you'd never ask." The pair made their way onto the dance floor. Tara carefully sat herself on Willow's lap and put her head on her girlfriend's shoulder. With the blond's foot, she moved the wheelchair a bit to the slow song that had come on.
Tears formed in Cordelia's eyes. "That's just so sweet. God! I wish I knew who did that. They deserve to pay. And in a big way. If only I knew." That's when Angel and Darla walked in.
"Are you sure about this Rupert?" Jenny asked for the third time. If anyone were to find out how they had gotten the information, it would be of the bad. The very bad indeed.
Giles shrugged. "I'm not certain of anything at the moment. But I feel that we have to get both Tara and her mother away from her father. If my suspicions are correct, both could very well die from his administrations."
Jenny looked at the librarian. "You haven't really shared with me your total concerns. Obviously there is the abuse. We've uncovered that. Hence the sending all this paperwork to the police and to social services. But there is more to it. I mean, violence can get out of hand. And can lead to death. But they way that you are talking, it's more certain than that."
The librarian looked up from the papers he was arranging so that he could send them to the proper authorities. He had a very grave look on his face. "I'm afraid that it could very well be a matter of life and death. It's more than a little suspicious that all these doctors can find nothing wrong with Tara's mother."
"And that is what's got you so up in an uproar?" Jenny shook her head. "You've got to have more to go on than just this. What else are you thinking."
"Quite honestly, nothing else to go on." Giles took off his glasses and began cleaning them. "It's just this feeling I have. The doctor's reports on Tara's mother are almost too clean. Like someone is paying to make them look like there is something wrong and yet at the same time nothing. I'm wondering if it's to hide something."
Jenny's eyes widened as she began to understand. "You really don't think that's really a possibility now do you Rupert?"
"A man that beats his wife and both his kids?" Giles slammed down the papers he had been holding. "I would put nothing past that gint. You think he would stop at simple physical abuse to control his family? I think not. And if we don't put a stop to it soon, Tara may end up with only him. And if that is the case, she may very well be next. And I don't wish to see my niece go through that."
"But still." Jenny looked him directly in the eyes. "Do you really think the man is capable of poisoning someone?"
"You've not met the man." Giles stared into her eyes. "I have. The man is cold and controlling. I'd wager he'd do anything to get what he wants."
Buffy sat on the swings, waiting. And she had been waiting for over an hour. Spike had said that he would meet her there but that was quite some time ago.
