Wesley walked around the empty library. He had been helping with the library duties. After all, Giles was his mentor. That man had gone through his fair share as of late. And his poor niece. It was tragic on so many levels. He sighed as he began putting books away. It didn't hurt that his girlfriend was assistant librarian though.
The school had been closed due to the violent shooting that had occurred just that morning. It seemed better for students to be at home with their parents. It was hard to believe that in the tiny little town of Sunnydale there was a gang or mafia, something of that level. But how else do you explain a drive by shooting. Those were the only two scenarios that made even the slightest bit of sense.
The quiet revere of just moments before was interrupted by the library doors opening and closing. The student teacher couldn't help but wonder who it was. Again, all the students were gone for the day and very few of the teachers were around. He made his way up to the front and stopped in his tracks as he recognized who was standing before him.
"Gunn?" Wesley quickly came and stood in front of the man. "What are you doing here? The last I knew you were in L.A. trying to make something of yourself."
Gunn shrugged. "That all fell through. I was hoping that you wouldn't mind if I came here. Could you give me a place to stay and all that?"
Wesley looked at the man that had been his best friend for so many years. They had met back in Boston. But they had gone their separate ways the minute that they graduated from high school. Wesley had gone on to college and Gunn had gone into the Army. After his short stint, he had decided to see what he could of the world ending up trying to do security and other things out in L.A.
"I was just in the process of getting my own apartment." Wesley shrugged. "Since returning to Sunnydale I had been living with my parents. Had to pay off my college loans. But now, I've got a two bedroom lined up. I was going to get a roommate anyways. This way it will be someone that I know and get along with. I think that would work well."
"Coolness." Gunn looked around the library. "This where you work man?"
"Yes." Wesley nodded. "Well I'm actually a student teacher. I have two classes that I help teach at the moment. But I've been helping out here because Mr. Giles has been having some personal problems."
"And because of me." Fred seemed to come out of nowhere. "At least I hope that I'm part of the deal." She came up and kissed him gently on the cheek. "Gonna introduce me to your friend?"
"But of course." Wesley turned to Gunn. "Gunn, this is Winifred. But everyone calls her Fred. Fred this is my high school friend, Charles. But everyone calls him Gunn."
"That's so cool." Gunn smiled big. "I mean, we both have our little nicknames. So Fred, you work in this place?"
"I'm the assistant librarian." Fred's cheeks seemed to turn a nice shade of pink. "Will you be around for a while?"
"It looks as if I'll be hanging at Wesley's. But I've gotta find a job." Gunn smiled a little.
"They are looking for a security guard. After what happened this morning, I think they want to be extra careful." Fred smiled brightly. Which did get noticed by Wesley.
"Well, that would be right up your alley, now wouldn't it?" Wesley also took in the fact that Gunn was checking out his girl. "I hope that you get to the job. That way we can be roommates."
"No sweat." Gunn smiled even more at Fred. "And I can get to know your girl better. She's a sweet little thing." Wesley felt this anger build up inside of him. Perhaps this wasn't such a good idea after all.

Joyce made her way into the emergency room. There were doctors and nurses flying all over the place. After the events of this morning, it was no wonder.
She quickly made her way to the nurses station. "Excuse me." No one seemed to want to answer her. "Listen! I'm Buffy Summers' mother. She was one of the shooting victims." She had to swallow hard to keep from crying. Her little girl a shooting victim. That was part of the reason that she had left L.A. That and the fact that her husband had cheated on her. "I would like to know how my daughter is doing."
Finally, a nurse looked up at her. "I'm sorry not to have responded. It's just that there is so much going on at the moment. It seems that there is also a crisis in the intensive care unit."
Joyce cringed. Wasn't that where her daughter's friend was? Willow. Was there something wrong with her as well. "I'm sorry to hear that. I was just hoping to get an update on my daughter. And to see if anyone knows what happened."
"I'm afraid there are no more details on how or why the shooting occurred. At least not here. Perhaps the police." The nurse swallowed hard. "I'm afraid that your daughter's condition is quite serious at the moment. I would rather have a doctor explain this to you, but they are all busy. So I'll do my best. The bullet that entered her chest is dangerously close to her heart. So close that we don't dare move her to another facility. We are waiting for a specialist to fly in."
"What?" Joyce looked around. Her daughter was in such serious condition that she couldn't be moved and that a specialist was being flown in. She felt the world beginning to spin around her and she was headed for the floor.
Strong arms caught her instead. "Miss, are you all right?"
Joyce's eyes fluttered open. "Please, I need to sit down." The strong arms helped her to the chairs in the waiting room. "Thank you. I just got some bad news about my daughter. I'll be fine in a moment."
"I'm sorry about Buffy, Mrs. Summers." Cordelia sat next to Joyce. "I'm Cordelia. This is Doyle. We came here because we thought that Angel and Spike were involved. If they were, we figured Buffy and Darla would be as well."
Joyce nodded absently. "Well, it's nice that you did. I just hope that everyone will be all right. It doesn't look too good for my daughter at the moment."

Xander was on his way to Willow's room. Anya was again no where to be found. He couldn't help but wonder where she had gone to this time. The last was over the unfortunate death of her real father. But she had been gone for only over a day. But still, no word and with the latest happenings in the little town he had called home for all of his fourteen years, it gave him big time reason to worry.
He watched as nurses and others hustled around. It was indeed like a war zone at the moment in Sunnydale. And the tiny hospital was all excited. Not that he could blame them. Nothing had ever happened like this in his lifetime in Sunnydale.
Finally, he made his way into Willow's room. Oz stood there like a statue while Faith lay on the bed next to his bestest friend in the whole world. Her eyes were open but they seemed to be staring into space. He knew something had happened.
"Hey gang!" Xander made his way and stood on the opposite side of Oz and Faith. "What's happening? It looks like a war zone around here."
Willow kept staring into space. So Faith looked at her cousin. "You haven't heard?" Xander shook his head. "Well, for one, there was this nice drive by shooting that left Buffy, Spike, Angel, and Darla all at deaths door. And red's honey has, for no apparent reason, slipped into a coma."
"What?!" Xander quickly sat down on the edge of the bed. "When it rains, it pours." He gently took the redhead's hand in his own. She only continued to stare into space. "Hey there. Are you gonna join me here in the land of the not so good."
Finally, after Xander gave her hand a gentle squeeze, those green eyes blinked a couple times. First her gaze went to Faith who smiled in return. Then her eyes focused on Xander. "When did you get here?"
"Well, I'm happy to see you too." Xander smiled his goofy smile. "Glad that I could come and you not even know that I showed up. But it's all of the good. Any word on Tara?"
Willow shook her head. "Uncle Giles and Miss Calendar said that something might be up with Tara. Faith didn't want to divulge that information but I made her. I just wish that I knew what was going on. And if Tara was all right."
"Why don't I go and track down G-man." Xander turned to Faith and Oz. "You've got my cousin and her guy to keep you company. I'm gonna go see what the what is."
"Thanks." Willow's green eyes were now tearing up. "I just want her to be all right. I don't think I could live without her Xander. Please find out."
"On it." Xander gave her hand a squeeze before making his way out into the hallway. He heard some raised voices and decided to investigate. The scene that he came upon was startling to say the least. He ducked back out before anyone could see him. He would bide his time and wait for the right moment.
"I'm warning you." Dr. Reynolds held the needle closer to Tara's IV. "If any of you makes a move, I'll just go ahead and inject this."
Giles straightened. He felt Jenny's hand on his back. There was definite fear there. "We just don't want to see the girl harmed. We don't care about you. And whom you might be working for. I think that the poor girl has been through enough."
The doctor shifted a little. He was now further away from Tara. "I'm only following orders. You should check out who is one of the largest contributors to this hospital. Then you would see who is the one behind this."
"I already know that." Giles took a tentative step towards the doctor and Tara. "All I wish for at the moment is that Tara is left alone. Is that really too much to ask for? She just lost her mother. And I fear in the same way that you were about to have her coma ended."
The doctor cringed. "You mean, this isn't the first time?"
Giles shook his head. "My dear lord! You have know idea how big this is, do you?" The doctor now looked scared. "Mr. Maclay is indeed behind this. I believe that he kept his wife sick after she found out about the abuse of his daughter. And well, the rest is history. Do you really want to end this poor innocent girl's life? Please think about it."
Xander snuck a peak. At that moment, the doctor lowered his hand and closed his eyes. Without even thinking about it, he launched himself at the doctor. But the doctor saw him coming and raised his hand. The needle he had been carrying struck Xander in the chest. A little bit of the substance inside was injected into the young man.
In an instant, Xander was looking up at the ceiling. His vision was blurring. Giles made his way over to the doctor who was still on the floor. He grabbed him by the collar of his shirt. "This is for my niece and for Tara." He decked him so that the doctor was now unconscious. Giles quickly turned his attention to Xander. "Dear lord." He saw the needle still sticking out of his chest. The nurse still stood there. "Bloody hell, woman. Get some help. He's been poisoned. With the same thing that Tara has been."
The nurse stared for a moment before turning and grabbing the phone. An alert went over for all available nurses and doctors to come to the intensive care unit. She made her way back in. "Where is that information you had?" Giles handed it to her. "I'll see that the doctors get this." She picked up the phone again and called security. "I'm sorry about all of this."
"Don't be sorry." Giles moved towards her. "Just bloody well help Xander and Tara. They are too bloody young to die."
