Wesley lay in bed. His life was of the very good. There were no arguments there.
His wedding was only a short month away. He and the beautiful Fred were to be
married. And there hadn't been any major problems. Well, with one major
exception. Or was that two exceptions?
The first was obvious. His little sister was be questioned for murder. Well, not
her being the actual culprit but she was still being questioned for covering for
whoever was the one that was behind the murder. And that was enough trouble for
a young woman of the tender age of fifteen.
But there was one other thing that Wesley knew that his little sister didn't
know. He knew the truth. He knew about the fact that she wasn't really his
sister. The story goes that after he was born, there were complications. And his
mother could no longer conceive children. But both his parents wanted another
child. Especially a little girl. And when she had become available for adoption,
they had both jumped at the chance.
He himself never thought of her as anything less then his little sister. But
there were those out there that would say that she wasn't. And that would
include her real father. No one was supposed to know who her father was. Not
even his parents knew who her real parents were. But he had stumbled on it. And
he knew. Knew that Ethan Rayne was actually the father of his little sister.
It made him wonder if that was why the man was back in town. He had heard
stories of why he had left in the first place. The biggest was the shame that
his little sisters existence had put on the rich family. But there were also
other rumors as to why he had left town and in such a hurry at the time.
Wesley had made it his business to find out as much as he could about the man
that could some day come back to claim his Faith. The one thing that very few
people knew because the money of Ethan's rich family had covered up was that
Ethan had been in trouble with the law. And not just ordinary speeding ticket
kind of trouble.
No. Ethan had been involved in a murder investigation himself. There had
supposedly been insufficient evidence at the time to charge him. But there had
been enough to implicate him. And there weren't really any other suspects at the
time. So he'd been let go because of his daddy's money. As usually happens with
the rich.
Fred whimpered a little in her sleep and Wesley wrapped his arms even tighter
around his love. She sometimes had bad dreams because of her past. Her mother
had not treated her the best. And still to this day sometimes made her feel
worthless at times. Or that she shouldn't have her own life and be happy.
But he was bound and determined to make her happy. Yet he was so worried about
his little sister. For her real father was now back in town. And with everything
happening, Wesley couldn't help but wonder at the timing of it. Was it just
coincidence? Or did he have some kind of devious plan?
Wesley sighed heavily. Really there was nothing more to it then someone coming
back to the place that he had grown up and seeing what was there for him. If
anything. Ethan was just a harmless guy that he just happen to have a connection
to because of his sister.
But still, there was something in his mind that was clicking. Telling him that
he should really watch the man. And the last time that he had had that feeling
was when Gunn was still his friend and he had tried to still his girl away. And
it had turned out to be true. Was this true as well? Was Ethan some evil man?
Only time would tell.

Hank Summers was no man to be messed with in in any way. Most that got in his
way were now laying in some cemetery rotting. His daughter had stood in his way.
As had Anya's father. That's why both were now sitting in his little dungeon
that he had so carefully constructed. Sound proof and inescapable. He'd had the
best minds available design it for him.
He now watched as Anya was trying to get his daughter to snap out of her little
stupor that she had fallen into. It hadn't taken much for her to break. After
all that she had been through he had thought that she would have had a stronger
will then that. It was sad really that his blood was flowing through her tiny
veins. She so did not deserve it. She was not good enough.
The mobster had to stifle a laugh as Anya slapped his daughter. She was far
beyond that now. There wasn't much that would be able to get through to her now.
After what he had done to her, she was now forever locked in her mind. And he
couldn't be prouder of that fact. Now, he just had to break the will of Anya.
Anya jumped back as Hank swung open the door. A smile was instantly on his face
as she couldn't totally suppress the look of fear on her face. For she should be
afraid. Very afraid of the things that he had in store for the young woman.
"Hello Anya. You still trying to get my daughter to come to?" Hank's evil
laughter seemed to bounce off from the walls. It sent shivers up and down Anya's
spine. "She is well beyond that I assure you. There's nothing there anymore to
save."
Anya stood up straighter trying to make it look like she wasn't afraid. Though
she was literally shaking with every fiber of her being. "We'll just see about
that. Cause I'm going to get the two of us the hell out of here. You can't hold
us here forever you know."
Hank was over to Anya and holding her right wrist in a second. "Don't be too
sure of that young lady. Sure, people will notice that you are missing. But so
what? I've fixed that. Just like I did with Buffy. You can say those poor young
woman. But I say they sacrificed themselves for the greater good."
"Greater good?" Anya tried to pull away from Hank's iron grip. "What kind of
sick greater good are you talking about? I mean so your daughter looked you in
the face and told you to go to hell. Get over it. And why punish me just because
my father was this insane person that thought he should have everything his way.
I mean, who thinks that way?"
Hank shook his head and then pulled Anya with a great yank towards him. They
were face to face now, only inches separating them. "I do. I am the ultimate.
You should know that by now. And anyone that messes with me will deal with the
consequences. Even if they don't get to pay personally." He shoved her so that
she had to look at Buffy. "She's paid somewhat for her sins against me. Now,
it's time you started paying for your father's."
Anya screamed as he yanked her arm hard. She hit her head on the door frame as
he pulled her out of the room. It didn't knock her out, but it did make her a
bit woozy. Things were definitely a bit blurry now. Bright lights came in and
out of focus.
Finally they came to a stop. Hank opened a door that made the most terrible
squeak that Anya had ever heard. Her head was beginning to pound from the hit on
the head already. And her stomach was feeling a bit queasy as well. When her
focus came back, she became even more nauseated. It was something she never
thought she'd ever see.
It was out of some fairytale. Only the ones that didn't have the good happy
endings. These were the ones that were of torture. There was an old iron maiden.
There were chains on the wall. There was a fire place with pokers there. And
there was even one of those stretching machines. Anya swallowed hard as she now
realized what she was in for. And there was no hope for escape. At least not
soon enough to escape whatever it was that Hank wanted to take delight in. Anya
tried to scream only to find that she was already gagged. So her screams of pain
were lost in silence. But echoed throughout her mind. Over and over again.

Gunn stood outside The Bronze. His job at the high school had long ago not
worked out. Well, not because he wasn't doing a good job. But it was because he
had to see Fred every single day. And Wesley. That was the reason that he didn't
want to. His former best friend had stolen his girl away from him.
Granted, he had found a wonderful young lady in Amy. One that was more like him
admit tingly. And that was a very good thing. But it still hurt how it had all
gown down. And so he was licking his wounds sort of speak by now being the
bouncer at The Bronze. It was a pretty good gig. He got to hear all the bands
and check out all the ladies.
And best of all, he could spend a lot of time with his honey. There were very
few nights when she didn't show up to spend time with him. And his boss didn't
mind so it was a bonus, that was for sure. Having a standing date every night
was a very good thing indeed.
His mind flashed to one thing. One thing that he was not proud of. One thing
that could get him in some serious trouble with the law. And after his military
stint, it was the easiest thing in the world for him to do. Even though he was
not proud of what he had done, he was proud of what he had accomplished. It was
a very good thing indeed.
For revenge was indeed a dish best served cold. The longer that it took to
develop the more painful it would be. And his revenge had been lingering for the
longest time. The only thing he regretted really now that he really thought
about it was that innocent people were getting caught up in it. But that was
there problem for being in the wrong place at the right time.
Amy came up from behind him and kissed the back of his neck. He jumped at her
touch. She shook her head and sighed. "Something has been up with you for weeks.
You care to share with your girlfriend? The one that you are supposed to share
everything with?"
Gunn just shrugged his shoulders. "It's nothing of the big. Really. I just think
this knew job is getting to me. I'm used to the early hours. Got that way when I
was in the Marines. And working at the high school wasn't really that different
in hours. Still fairly early. This one staying up to three in the morning is new
to me."
"Sure." Amy shook her head. "You know that you can't lie to me. I can so easily
see through you. I know we've only going out for a few months now, but I know
you. And there is something big that you are not caring to share with me. Oh
well, you will when you feel that you can. I hope anyways."
"Honest, babe. I'm not hiding anything." He received an instant glare. "Let's
just say that there are some things that you don't share even with the woman
that you love more then anything in the world. That's just the way things are."
In that instant, Amy forgot everything else. Those words that every person
dreams of hearing to their name. "You really love me?"
"But of course I do." Gunn brought her into a tight embrace. "I wanted to say it
in a more romantic way but I guess saying it is better then not saying it. Been
trying to find the right moment for the past few weeks."
Tears formed in Amy's eyes. She may put that tough badass persona out there, but
at heart she was a softy. And now, she was at the happiest point of her life.
She'd finally found someone that accepted her for who she was. Wild person and
the good person deep down inside. Gunn accepted her flaws and all. It took a
very good person to do that. She just hoped that it wasn't all an illusion.

Jail. It was the last place on earth that Willow Rosenberg ever thought she
would find herself. Yet here she was sitting in the teen detention facility
waiting till morning for the judge to hear her case. It was rather late and she
was alone. And terrified. Terrified really didn't even begin to describe how she
was feeling.
The only good thing was that she now remember most of what happened. That dream
that she had had just a few nights ago shed light on to those moments that had
escaped her. For so long she had wondered exactly what had happened. Even
wondered if she was the one that had killed Mr. MaClay.
The door clanged open at that moment. Willow shot up. She still didn't know who
or what to expect would come through those doors. And the fear grew every time
that someone had come through. Most often it had been Det. Walsh. The one person
that she was learning to hate. Even though she was just doing her job. But
still.
Her chin nearly hit the floor when she saw that it was her beloved Tara that
stood there. It took only an instant for the two of them to be in a tight
embrace. The two just wanted to hold on to one another forever. But it wasn't
long before they were being pulled apart.
"I'm sorry to have to do this, but regulations are regulations." There was the
kindest of smiles on Riley's face. Of all the things that had happened to Willow
while she had been stuck in the detention facility the one good thing had to
have been being assigned the young man to watch over her. He understood the need
for just ordinary things.
Willow and Tara immediately parted ways. The redhead sighed heavily. Her life
was so out of her control at the moment. There didn't seem to be anything that
she could to get it back either. Even what she remembered was only her word
against all of the evidence that seemed to be surmounting against her.
"I missed you." Tara stroked her hair ever so gently. "You uncle will be her in
a few minutes. He pulled some strings so that we could both see you. He wanted
to give us a bit of time before coming in."
"He's amazing that way." Willow stroked Tara's cheek. "So are you. You are
simply the most amazing girlfriend in the world. Not many would stick by me.
Especially when it is your father that was the one that was killed. One thing to
just be accused of murder."
Tara placed her finger over her everything's lips. "No need for talk like that.
No matter what happens I know that you didn't have anything to do with my
father's death. There are so many that wanted him dead. Including me. And I hate
to admit it, but I thought a lot about killing him myself. But I just couldn't
do it."
The two slowly made there way over to the table to sit down at still in Officer
Riley's view. They sat there just holding hands. There were so many things that
could be said but words didn't really seem to be need to be said. Some things
words could not express anyways.
The two looked up when Giles entered. He nodded to Riley and quickly made his
way to his niece and her girlfriend. The look on his face was very solemn. "I'm
afraid I that I have some rather bad news. The evidence is very stacked against
you at the moment. There is one thing that does seem to have the police puzzled.
They found a military knife not far from the scene of the crime. But I'm afraid
my dears that they may not want to let you out, Willow."
Both young ladies got really sad. And tears were close for both of them. It was
what Willow had feared all along. Because of all the evidence against her and
the fact that her family was on the rich side, she might not get out of here.
Things were not looking good for her. The only thing keeping her going was the
fact that she still had her everything. And the faith of her friends and her
family. But would it be enough to get her through her troubled times?
