Davey had to leave at 5:30 in order to be on time to catch his flight. He laid there for a moment looking at Litzy, watching her sleep. She was facing him now, her dark hair spread on her pillows in shiny waves. Her left arm was folded up against her chest, barely covering her round breasts. Her wrist sparkled with the diamonds of her bracelet, and her engagement ring looked so right on her delicate hand. She looked peaceful, happy and beautiful. He just had to sneak and take a picture. Just so that he'd always remember how wonderful their holiday was and how she looked when carrying their first child.

'Our first child?' he thought. 'Will there be more?'

He hadn't ever thought he'd be making these decisions, but he thought that maybe he would like three or four children. He imagined his parents would nearly burst with happiness if they heard him say so. They were nearly bursting as it was over the fact that Litzy was moving to California in a week. They had somehow gotten what they'd always wanted: their son was in love with a woman. He, himself, couldn't even believe it. But standing there looking at her, he felt so grateful that she had let him know how she felt. If she hadnt, he might never have realized what they could have together.

He went about getting ready to leave and when he was set and had fed Marshmallow, he went to wake Litzy up to say goodbye. He sat on the bed, leaned down and kissed her. He felt her shift beneath him and start to kiss him back.

"It's not time for you to go yet," she pouted. "It cant be."
"I wish it wasn't."
"Dont go. Cant you catch a later flight?"
"No, honey, I cant. This one will get me there just in time."
"Aw. I'm so glad you came," she said, hugging him.
"Me too," he said, stroking her hair. "Litzy?"
"Hmm?"
"How many kids do you want?"
"Including the one I'm having now?"
"Yeah."
"One," she said, resolutely. "Why?"
"No reason. So, I'll call you when I land, okay?"
"Okay. I'll talk to you then."

With one last kiss, he left.

At the airport he kept trying to figure out what her response to his question had meant. Did it mean that she didnt like kids? Or that she didn't love him? Did it mean that they would never be having a baby if it hadnt happened by accident? Did she even really want the baby? Would she be having it if she didn't? What would be the point? To lure him away from Tyler? After all, isn't that what had happened? She showed up and told him she was pregnant and he dropped everything - including Tyler.

'No, Litzy's not like that. She loves me. I know she does.'

But still he heard that tiny voice of insecurity in the back of his head asking questions and poking holes. Finally he just decided to let it go. It was ridiculous. They'd just had the best night ever together and here he was in O'Hare airport contemplating whether or not she really loved him. She obviously did, she was giving up her job and her city to be with him.

'But she doesn't want to have kids with me. What does that mean?'

He suddenly remembered something. The CD. He was dying to know what was on it. He took it out and popped it into his laptop, then plugged in his headphones and played it. He didn't know what to expect so he just tried to listen to it objectively. When it was over, he found himself truly stunned. He grabbed his Sidekick and called Jade.

"Yo," he answered.
"You have got to hear something. Are you by your computer?"
"Uh, I'm on it."
"You're playing Heroes of Might and Magic IV again?"
"So what if I am? Do I have to quit?"
"For a minute, yes."
"A minute?! The entire empire is at stake! Oh alright. God, you are so selfish."

As soon as Davey had put the CD into his computer iTunes ripped it, so he just sent it to Jade as an .mp3.

"What is this?" he asked, when he got the file.
"Just listen to it."
"Alright, alright, alright," he said, clicking around.
He could hear it in the background as Jade played it.
"Davey, what is this? I mean, where'd you get it?"
"What do you think of it?"
"It's absolutely out of this world. Where did you get it?"
"I'm not telling you."
"Well can we use it? You know what we could do? Speed up the tempo just a bit and switch the bridge around. I could do something like a -"
"No, we cant use it. I just wanted your opinion."
"Why?"
"Because I wanted to know if you thought it was as amazing as I did, or if I was just biased."
"What do you mean? Whose song is this?"
"Litzy's."
"Wow. Litzy our Litzy?"
"No, Litzy MY Litzy."
"Whatever. Dude..."
"What?"
"This is the most beautiful song I've heard in a long time."
"I know, me too. She wrote it for me."
"She must love you to death."
"Yeah," he said, modestly, not wanting to let on how happy that made him.
"Well since that's the case, I'm sure you can get her to let us work with this song and make it AFI."
"I can ask her, but no promises."
"Come on. You're her fiance, I'm sure she'll do whatever you say."
"Which Litzy are we talking about here? Because the Litzy I know only does what she wants," he laughed.
"I wanna use that song!"
"Okay okay! I'll see what I can do."
"And have I mentioned how happy I am that you two are getting married?"
Davey groaned and rubbed his eyes.
"Because I am. Really. I mean, I'm glad you found someone talented, sweet and good-looking."
"Then why have you been acting like such a prick, Jade?"
"Personal reasons."
"Personal reasons? You can't just say that and get off the hook. I think I deserve a real reason. Or are you just making all of this up because you want to use her song? In which case, no, I am not asking her."
"It's not that. You always think I have these evil little motives -"
"YOU DO!"
"No I don't. If I tell you, you'll only think it's stupid."
"Why don't you let me be the judge of that? I mean, it just seemed like you got personally upset about it and you know me, you know I wouldn't be with Litzy if I didn't really love her."
"And that's the problem."
"What do you mean?"
"I've never minded anybody you dated because I knew you didn't love them."

Davey did the math and that one still did not add up.

"What? How does that explain why you were against me and Litzy being together from the start, and now that we are together you act like I'm the biggest traitor ever?"
"I have jealousy issues," he said, quietly.
"Jealousy over wha -"

That's when it hit him.

Yet another person was confessing their love for him.

"Oh my God," he said, suddenly developing a headache.

How could he not have known all these years?

"Don't get me wrong - I always knew that you weren't attracted to me," Jade said. "For whatever reason you just never were. And I knew that eventually you would find someone. I tried to be a good friend, that was what I was trying to do with setting you up with Tyler, I wanted you to be happy. But now when I think about it, deep down I know I picked someone who could never really interest you or stimulate you intellectually the way you needed to be. Essentially I was just being selfish. And maybe I never did give up hope that one day there'd be a chance for me, but when you fell for Litzy - of all people - I just...didn't know how to deal with it. I mean, she's great. But she's a girl. And if that's what you want after all, then even that tiny little bit of hope that was there is dead."
"Jade..."
"No no no, there's no need to say anything. In fact, there's no need to ever talk about this again. I've gotta go."
"Wait, I don't want you to hang up upset -"
"I'm not upset. I'll get over it. I just need some time."
"I don't know what to say..."
"Don't say anything. And dont say anything to anyone else about this, okay?"
"Of course."
"I'll see you later."
"Okay," he said.

He heard the announcement that his flight was boarding, but for a moment he was too stunned to move. He wanted to call Litzy and tell her because he knew keeping it inside was going to be hard. Plus he wanted someone to tell him what to do in a situation like this. But he had promised not to tell anyone, and he intended to keep that promise. And there was no time.

He grabbed his bag and boarded his flight, syncing his iPod so he could listen to his song again.

He couldnt believe he had ever doubted her love for him.

He also couldnt believe his best friend was in love with him, too.

How could this not change everything?
