Longing

A poem about a guy I know. It's fairly angsty, I suppose.

I'd really love some feedback!

Empty.
Can't you see this gaping hole?
A mocking tribute
To the girl I once was
A hollow shell,
Fake.
Nobody sees through my smile
To the torment underneath,
A puppet,
In your power,
Starving for your attention.
Don't you see right through me?
Or is my mask so complete
That nobody knows what lies beneath.
Desperate.
I need you to look at me,
To notice me.
I need someone to care.
Tired.
Tired of this life,
This charade,
On the verge of giving up.
Failure.
Never good enough for myself,
Or for anyone else.
The bitter taste of insufficiency
Fills my mouth,
Sticks in my throat.
Frightened.
Lurking in the shadows,
Keeping to myself,
Never going to open up,
Until you set me free.
Yours.
Why can't you just see?
I'm too far gone to give up now.
So until you open your eyes
I'll be waiting patiently
For the day you take me in your arms,
And realise that it's right
Between us.
You are the only one
Who can help me now.
Because I can't be alone,
And there's nobody else
Who makes me feel alive.
