The Nightingale

Chapter 1: Encounters

(The Yellow Turbans made their way through villages and cities in China, causing chaos where ever they step foot at. The scene focuses to a young female in peasant garb in one of those towns. Enter Lei Ying)

Lei Ying:
O' fiery flames of hell, why did you choose to pick the place
where my memories and dreams lay
where my family once stayed
until you spreaded their ashes away
In what ways have I wronged you?
I am but a dutiful, filial peasant
Now you left me no choice to pick, but to fight for survival.
A burning flame is soaring inside of me.
(Notices a couple of Yellow Turbans soldiers coming by)
Here comes those rebels, am I to face death?
What can this woman do, with only the protection of a crumbled wall.
I pray you God, let me live 'til old.
(She stays hidden behind the wall. Clashes can be heard from where she saw the incoming Turbans)
O' but what's this? A knight in a fine horse is here to save me?

Cao Cao:
(hears the soft movement and rides out to her)
I hear the gentle footing of a maiden!
Wherever you are, show yourself, to the man who saved your life, or else-

Lei Ying:
(Steps out of hiding)
Your ear is acute to have known me from far away
I thank you for your heroic deed, yet I apologize for I can't reward you anything else
All I own is of myself.

Cao Cao:
(grins when hearing that)
Your beautiful body is all I shall have
A sufficent gift, do you think not?
You'll live at the pavilion along with my other concubines
with all the treasures you so desire in your life
Isn't this a dream you want?

Lei Ying:
(To herself)
How can I give myself to a lecher, despite he saved me from the eternal flames
O' what the heck, what am I to do, shouldn't a commoner be happy of this ordeal?
(To Cao Cao)
'Tis what I dreamed of all my life,
to be with a man of high status
I shall be your concubine.
Yet I am dirty, reeking of the peasant smell
Wouldn't you consider this as well?

Cao Cao:
(Looking her in the eye, grabbing onto her hand)
Say no words, you are extremely captivating to the eye
The mirror will tell the truth, not a lie
I'll make a worthy woman out of you
Now come, we both have so much to do.
(The two left to Cao Cao's residence)

(Two men are dueling each other, rather yet practicing in the garden. Both are talking as they do so. Enter Li Dian and Yue Jin)

Yue Jin:
Friend, this morning I saw our lord
Carry the most beautifullest nightingale in the world
Those gates they walked their way in
Lord Cao Cao gave me a look as if it was a sin
to set eyes on his new mistress.

Li Dian:
Of all things you should've known better
women will cause you death
They'll woo you into their spell
along with that, cause problems for you as well
Yue Jin, if I were you
I'd keep those eyes glued on yourself.

Yue Jin:
Overly cautious, typical you
These orbs of mine will stay onto me
But only when Cao Cao is in proximity
When the lady is free, unattendant
I shall ask her for a dance from the heavens.

Li Dian:
Words travel in one ear of yours
and travel out the other
Why did I bother to waste words
When you are not even choking on them!
My friend, do not blame me
When the tides come crashing upon you.

Yue Jin:
(laughs) Your words are like
Snow falling during summer
Summer snows are not meant to happen,
believe me I know.

Li Dian:
Then I won't press forward no more
Wishing the stars shine in your favor, I bid you adieu.
(He said leaving his sparring buddy, then saying to himself)
I recall seeing this nightingale who's complexion shone like gold
But she belongs to my lord
So I cannot touch her, no sir
Yue Jin sooner or later will give up his hopes.
(He said, retiring to his room)
I should return immediately to my work.
(Grabs a feather pen but hears a soft voice singing. Although it wasn't the most perfect voice, he opened the window to look anyway. Lei Ying sat in the gazebo, singing a melancholy song.)
O' please, no more sadness and sorrow
I beg whoever is out htere singing.
(Notices Lei Ying turning her face towards his direction)

Lei Ying:
With all my heart I apologize dear general
My motives are of no harm
Perhaps my voice only suits for animals in a barn
That's what the Lord have told
How I wish he wasn't so cold.

Li Dian:
By all means, you're pointing the sword
where one usually points elsewhere
Learn to love yourself, fair maiden
Mayhaps that face of yours will brighten a bit.

Lei Ying:
I shall heed your words
for now, farewell
I shall unleash my sorrows
somewhere else.

Li Dian:
O' soft! Do not leave
You caused my sword to unsheathe
(Lei Ying's eyes were wide, in shock)
Excuse me for my directness
Perhaps you should leave from me
(Lei Ying nods and leaves him)
Did what I told Yue Jin not to do,
Therefore I am nothing but also a fool.
(He says and closes the window, returning back to work)

Lei Ying:
(Walks into her room, talks to self)
To eat humble pie
for a man such as him
to meet one of his kind...
What am I talking about?
I am deceived by his looks
and not of the persona within.
(Stares in front of the mirror, the image of her teary eyes reflecting)
I should be pleasing Lord Cao Cao
but then again, here I am rambling about my thoughts within
I am perhaps a flash in the pan,
discarded once discovered.
(A noise is heard knocking on Lei Ying's windows)
A noise...Can it be General Li Dian?
(She opens it hastily to see only Yue Jin)

Yue Jin:
(Attempts his most happiest smile, holding chrysanthemum flowers)
My lady, I am here to pour oil on your troubled waters
(Hands her the flowers hoping she cheers up. She gave a slight smile, which was enough for him to be happy)
I'm grateful my visit didn't end up in smoke.

Lei Ying:
Thank you general but I fear if you linger any more
Lord Cao Cao will be most likely to show.

Yue Jin:
Such condolence...though seeing you once a day is tolerable enough
I'll definitely dream of you my damsel
during the deepest darkest time of this night.
(Closes the window for her and leaves)

Lei Ying:
I am in consternation,
for everything can feasibly go astray
Yue Jin...why do you swing my way?
Nevermind, I should quell all dilemmas
eschew all problems in the future.
(She sits in front of the mirror again and tries to think of a solution)
