Uhh...lets see...how should I summarize this?? I've got it...The Mission Begins!
0Unrated
Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto or anything else I may have mentioned below but if you were planning on suing me for it I'm going to be frank and say that you need to get a life.
/What could be so important that Tsunade would call all of us down here/, thought Shikamaru. He was in Tsunade's office along with Sakura, Shino, Lee, Tenten, Kiba, Ino, and Hinata. In fact, nearly everyone he was close with (except those away on other missions) was here. Whenever something like this occurred, it usually wasn't good news. Shikamaru looked up at Tsunade. She looked tense. "When is that godforsaken little brat going to get here??" Tsunade screamed angrily. Shikamaru smiled to himself but quickly wiped the grin of his face when Tsunade glared at him pointedly. The term 'godforsaken little brat' could only mean one thing...Naruto.
And sure enough, a second later Naruto entered the room, his chest held high. "If you check the clock, Tsunade baa-chan, it seems apparent that, not only have I arrived on time, but I have also-- wait...what's everyone else doing here? I didn't get here too early, did I?" Tsunade's fists began to shake violently at her sides and her glare was one that Shikamaru certainly did not want to be on the receiving end of. "NARUTO! You're late!! I told you to arrive here promptly at 10am...it's nearly eleven!!!!! I swear if you're late once more, you can just say good-bye to your dream of becoming Hokage...and your limbs!" Tsunade was breathing heavily now and everyone else was just looking down at their feet, trying not to meet her fierce gaze.
"What? But I was sure I was a few minutes early! Your clock must be wrong..." /Bad Move/. Now Tsunade was steaming. "Naruto," said Sakura in a soft yet somewhat urgent voice, "I think you forgot about daylight savings time." Naruto stared at Sakura for some time and then slowly turned towards the furious Tsunade. Perhaps furious is an understatement.
"Hehe, well," stuttered Naruto, scratching his head nervously, "you have to understand...I've been, uhh...busy...you know...with missions and stuff...daylight savings time compared to saving lives really isn't all that important..." /Bad move again/, thought Shikamaru, /this is exactly why women are such a pain/.
The expression that currently resided on Tsunade's face is not one that can be described with mere words such as 'angry', 'mad', or 'livid'. Therefore, I will not bother describing it at all, but just know that she is, in fact, unhappy. "NARUTO! WHEN I GET MY HANDS ON YOU, I'M GONNA FREAKIN-"
"Tsunade!" interrupted Shizune, saving Naruto's life in the process, "We are running out of time. Perhaps you should notify them of the mission," she said in a small voice.
"Yes...of course," breathed Tsunade, a vein pulsing on her temple. "Well, I'm not going to beat around the bush. As you all know, Sasuke's three years are almost up and Orochimaru will soon use him as a container for his soul. Your mission is to retrieve him. Actually, it's to prevent Orochimaru from using him to become more powerful, but I think you guys are more worried about the first part. You all are the only ones currently available who knew Sasuke well and that is why you have been chosen. Besides, I'm sure Naruto would've gone off and planned something on his own anyway if I hadn't done this sooner." Naruto looked down guiltily. Then Sakura asked, "What about Kakashi sensei? He knew Sasuke well too. Besides, we can't do this without more help, can we?"
Tsunade chuckled. "You underestimate your own strength, but Kakashi and a few others have already been sent to help out in another, more dangerous, angle of the mission."
Shikamaru smiled. He was beginning to understand.
"So, let me guess. You think that this would be a good time to get Sasuke because you think that Sasuke will attempt to kill his brother sometime soon, before his body is used as a container. You wish to use Sasuke's own desires to help us remove him from Orochimaru's grasp, pretty much. That's why you're sending out Kakashi and the others, to locate Itachi that way you'll know where Sasuke's headed."
Kiba rolled his eyes. "Thank you, Shikamaru, for making sure we all look like idiots yet again."
"Don't worry," Shikamaru grinned, "It doesn't take much to make you look like an idiot, Kiba."
"Enough, Kiba. You too Shikamaru. Although, I have to admit I did not expect my intentions to be revealed so easily, but I suppose I should've anticipated it," Tsunade said, feeling a bit annoyed. "Shino's father is accompanying Kakashi as well, that way if they need to contact your group, his bugs will communicate with Shino, or vice versa. But that's only if you need immediate help...or, of course, if your mission was a success."
She doesn't seem too confident about us succeeding/, Shikamaru noted feeling a bit disappointed. "Shikamaru," added Tsunade, "I've decided that you would be the leader for this mission." Shikamaru groaned. /Why did it always have to be him? "I think that this mission needs a leader who is capable of planning out their moves and not doing anything foolish on the spur of the moment. That immediately counts out Naruto." Naruto scowled but then shrugged and nodded his head sideways as if to say, "Well, she does have a point."
"I wish I could provide you with more people. I also feel bad for Chouji and Neji, since they both knew Sasuke fairly well. Unfortunately, they are away on other missions at the moment. Perhaps if they return soon, I'll send them after you as well, but I doubt that's going to happen. You leave in an hour." Tsunade looked uneasy for a moment and then said, "I wasn't so sure at first if I should send all of you. Orochimaru, and perhaps now even Sasuke, is very powerful. He could practically kill you all in an instant, no offense. I've grown very fond of you all and I can't bear the thought that I may be sending you off to your deaths. So please...be careful. You are dismissed."
/Wow, that was not the sort of reaction I was expecting from a hardass person like Tsunade/. Shikamaru sighed wearily and then slipped his hands into his pockets and walked out. This was going to be one hell of a freaking mission.

Hey so I've updated if you haven't yet noticed. Btw I was wondering whether or not I should add in any romance into this series. And sorry to you SasuSaku fans for pretty much completely destroying that possibility in the previous chapter. Well please R&R and tell me what you think about the whole romance thing plz. I'm open to any suggestions, though i have to say I'm not a big fan of stereotype pairings like NaruHina and such. And the pairings do not necessarily have to involve Shikamaru just because he's the main character (although I suppose that would be a bit easier). Well just please let me know what you think about that soon because then I can start incorporating it into the next chapter.
