"I swear to god, Cadence, if I go to wear that shirt and there are booby marks..." Patrick teased as he looked at his best friend.
Cadence laughed. "Yours will fit nicely into them." She teased as she rolled onto her side and pulled the blankets up over her until they reached her chest.
Patrick shook his head as he turned off the light and walked over to the other side of the bed and got in. There was nothing more innocent when it came to these two best friends who had been that way for the last seventeen years. Getting into the bed and he moved in next to her and pulled the blankets up to his chest and turned on his side so that he was facing her. His arms wrapping around her as she cuddled up next to him.
"Stars are just fire burning up the atmosphere." Cadence stated as she stared towards the window, the Chicago night sky peeking in through the old beat up blinds.
"But, they're fun to make wishes on." He stated back as he reopened his eyes. Without his glasses there wasn't really much that he could see. Looking down at her, he could make out the outline of her face. The hair hanging over her forehead, down to the almost perfect slope of her nose and then her lips jutting out as she finished speaking.
"But, they don't know how to save a life." She retorted as she held onto his waist, her head comfortably resting next to his on the pillow.
"You don't need stars to save your life. Cad, everything will work it self out. And, for now you have me and you don't need to worry about all that other stuff, okay?" He told her as he kissed her head and returned back to his almost sleeping stage.
"I just feel like I'm stuck in an avalanche." She sighed as she shimmied down in the bed, getting even more comfortable.
"Well, I've got a few shovels; just hang on for a little longer." He smiled as he readjusted his grip on her and let out a tiny yawn.
Cadence couldn't help but smile as she closed her own eyes. It was obvious to her that Patrick was tired and she had to let her best friend get some rest. He was right, though. No problems could be solved at two in the morning. There was always tomorrow morning. Thank god for Saturday's.
The next morning Cadence lifted her head as the sun was now creeping in at full blast through the blinds. Looking at the clock it read 10:23 AM. Trying to get up even more, she started to laugh because of Patrick being sprawled out on her back.
"Ah, firefly, get off me. I have to pee." Cadence laughed as she tried to move, but just couldn't. This wasn't unusual for them. They often woke up in the most interesting positions.
"Just roll me over." He mumbled back, not really wanting to get up just yet.
Cadence laughed as she pushed him off of her and got up making her way to the bathroom. Coming back into the room she frowned. Once she was up, she was up and there was no going back to sleep.
Sitting on the edge of the bed, she looked at Patrick waiting for him to get up. It would be a little rude to make him get up, huh? Shaking her head she looked around the room. It hadn't changed in years, why would there be anything new? "Hey, firefly?" She asked. Don't laugh at the nickname.
"Yeah, Cadbury bunny?" He asked, opening one eye to look at her. He could make her face out better than last night and he didn't like it. Now he could see the bruises that lined her cheek.
"Don't you have that guy coming over today? The one you met in Boarders..." She trailed off.
"Oh shit!" He snapped up, remembering the date that that he made for this guy named Joe to come over and hear him play. He was quite possibly joining a band with him and his friend whose name escaped Patrick at the moment. "Shit, shit, shit. They're going to be here in an hour!" He jumped up and started to run around the room.
Cadence laughed. "There is too much white leg running around this room." She laughed, pointing to both of them. "We need to go get tans."
"Too bad we burn." He grabbed his jeans that were hanging over the chair to his desk. "Cad, I didn't even like make any lunch. I'm like the worst host ever."
"Firefly, chill." She laughed as she threw her legs over the side of the bed. "You get ready, get your guitar, whatever. And, I'll go clean up the house and make some kind of lunches." She grabbed his hoodie off of the floor and slipped it on. It was summertime and while the air conditioning in his room wasn't that cold, the rest of his house was like a cave in Antarctica
"Cadence, I owe you my first born." He smiled as he pecked her on the cheek and made his way to the bathroom.
"Or your first million!" She joked as she bounced her way down the stairs. They didn't have to worry about Patrick's parents being home. This week they were away in Hawaii for a third honey moon. It was absolutely romantic how much in love his parents were. It was something that both Cadence and Patrick looked up to.
At around 12:30 there was still no sign of this guy Joe and his friend, and Patrick was beginning to get nervous. This would be an awful joke if they had decided that he wasn't cool enough for their band.
"Firefly, they'll be here!" She told him as she rubbed his back. "Traffic was probably a nightmare." She moved the curtain to the side as she looked out. Turning she saw two guys and a girl coming up with the walk. "Is that them?" She asked.
Patrick looked out the window and nodded. "You answer the door, I don't want to look over anxious." He told her as he went and sat down in the recliner.
"Okay, act natural." Cadence teased as she heard the doorbell ring and she walked over to the door and opened it.
"Uh, hi. Is Patrick home?" The first guy asked Cadence. He didn't know who she was. Patrick said he'd be alone.
"Yep, come on in." She said as she held the door open for the three of them as they walked into the living room and she shut the door.
The guys all greeted Patrick as they got comfortable around the living room.
"Uh, Patrick I want you to meet my girlfriend Jaelyn." Joe introduced her.
"Hi, nice to meet you." Patrick smiled as he shook his hand. "Cad, this is Joe and Pete and Jaelyn." Patrick started to introduce, "And, this is Cadence, my-" He was cut off.
"Groupie. Nice to meet you." She shook their hands as a small smile played on her lips.
"Or, best friend." Patrick nodded as he sat down on the recliner again after the guys had sit down and got comfortable. "Cadence why don't you take Jaelyn into the kitchen so me and the guys can...do this." He was a little uncomfortable with Jaelyn being there.
"Sure, come on." Cadence waved Jaelyn into the kitchen leaving the guys alone in the living room.
Patrick looked at the guys and nodded as he picked up his guitar. This was the worst audition he had ever been on, ever. It was more nerve wracking probably because it was his first time. He was an audition virgin. Usually bands just happened for him.
Reviews are always appreciated.
