Chapter Two
Patrick and Cadence are best friends. They are there for each other through everything, or are they?

Moving into the kitchen, Jaelyn walked behind Cadence as she admired the photographs that hung on the wall. It was a quaint little house perfect for a small family, which was exactly what the Stumph's were.
"So, have you known Patrick for a really long time?" Jaelyn asked casually as she sat down at the table at Cadence's urging.
"Our moms gave birth on the same day and shared a room in the hospital." Cadence's smiled at the thoughts of her mother. "Our Mom's got really close and they kept in touch ever since." She laughed. "Patrick and I are to have an arranged marriage basically." She smiled at her. "I mean that was the joke they always told."
"That's so sweet." Jaelyn cooed. "So, is he a really good musician, because, don't get me wrong, I love Joe and Pete, but they're super picky." She took a sip of the water Cadence had given her.
"He's the best musician in Chicago." Cadence happily gloated. "He's got a voice that makes angels jealous." She told her. "He seems a little impatient today because he's really anxious. He's not very good when it comes to this whole auditioning thing."
"Ah, well Joe and Pete aren't anything to be scared of." Jaelyn laughed.
"So, you and Joe are both seventeen correct?" She assumed. "And, Pete's much older....?" She trailed off.
"Yeah, I just turned seventeen in July and Joe will be seventeen in September." She nodded. "And, Pete was twenty two in June." Jaelyn nodded. "You and Patrick are seventeen?"
"Yeah, we were seventeen on April 27th." She nodded as she took a sip of her own drink.
"Oh, that's amazing." Jaelyn laughed as she leaned back in the chair trying to see if she could hear any of what was going on in the living room.
"You can't hear anything from here." Cadence stated as she got a large smile on her face as she waved Jaelyn over to a set of steps that went upstairs. Getting upstairs, Cadence bent down and leaned by the heating vent. "If you're really quiet you can hear everything." She said, putting a finger to her mouth and they each sat on either side of the vent, listening.
After a few minutes of the girls being quiet, Jaelyn turned to look at Cadence, a large smile on her face as she mouthed "Oh my god". Cadence just smiled and nodded. Patrick was doing amazing. She knew he would. Now he just had to have some of that confidence in himself.
The singing stopped and the girls could hear Pete and Joe telling Patrick how impressed they were with him and how that he definitely had to be the singer of the band.
Waving Jaelyn downstairs, Cadence sat at the table acting casual. She didn't want Patrick to know they had been listening at the vent.
"CAD?" Patrick called through out the house as he walked over to the kitchen.
"Yes, firefly?" She asked, looking up at him as he entered the kitchen. "How did it go?" She smiled up at him but couldn't hide her smile.
"The vent?" He asked, knowingly as he couldn't hide his smile either. "I'm in, oh god, Cad, I'm in!" He said as he wrapped his arms around her, picking her up in a hug.
"I know you would, I am so proud of you!" She smiled as pressed her lips to his, giving him a kiss. "You're amazing, firefly."
"Aw, shucks Cad, you make me blush!" He hugged her tighter to him as they made their way back into the living room where Jaelyn had escaped to when Patrick came in. She wanted to give Cadence and Patrick a moment alone. Just best friends? Maybe not.
After spending what seemed like the whole day with Jaelyn, Joe and Pete, Patrick and Cadence said good night to them and then headed upstairs to Patrick's room. It was already about ten thirty and both were exhausted from the day.
Sitting on the edge of the bed, once again Cadence pulled her legs to her chest as she ran her hands over her legs. She was waiting for Patrick to come out of the bathroom and then they would head to bed. Her mind was full of thoughts that night.
"Bunny?" Patrick questioned as he was trying to break her out of her thoughts. He had been standing next to the bed for a good two minutes. Her eyes were gazed over and he knew she was in deep thought about something he really didn't want her thinking about.
"Sorry..." She apologized as she turned her head and looked the bed. She refused to look in his direction until she got the chance to wipe her eyes.
"Bunny, what's wrong?" He turned her head as he slid his thumb over her cheek, wiping away the tears that were falling from her eyes despite resistance.
"I have to go home tomorrow. I don't want to go, Patrick." She shook her head. "I don't want to go back ever again." She turned her face away from him.
Patrick let out a deep breath. He knew she was trying to be strong for his sake. He hated sending her back that house whenever it was time for her to go home. But, technically there wasn't anything they could do about it. If he wanted to call the cops, Cadence fought him tooth and nail not to. She didn't want to be moved away from him. She couldn't live without him. But, he also knew he couldn't tell her not to go back because she was allowed to stay with him for a few days as long as she went back to her Uncle' for a little bit of time.
"Say something, please." She hated when he went silent. She knew his mind was working over time on something, anything.
"I love you, Cad. You'll be okay. I don't know what else to tell you." He said as he lay down on the bed next to her. He pulled the blankets over them as he wrapped his arms around her.
Cadence frowned as she rolled into him, her arms wrapping around his waist. "I love you, firefly." She told him. She didn't want to make him search for the words that she knew he didn't have.
Patrick smiled as he leaned into Cadence as he pushed his lips onto hers, his hand moving around her body and going up the back of her shirt, lifting it over her head. Sometimes words were spoken better with actions.
