Mikey asked me,
"Did I fail to mention that my mom works here?"
I looked at him and answered,
"Yes, Mikey, yes you did."
A woman, who looked 30-ish, walked towards us. She had brunette hair, brown eyes and was about 5'3. She smile and fixed Mikey's hair. The she signed and said,
"Ahh..my baby is growing up!"
Mikey forced a nervous laugh and said,
"Mom, we're not going out."
She looked shocked and said,
"What Mikey?"
Mikey gestured towards me and said,
"Mom, meet Hell. She's my friend..and ONLY my friend."
Mrs. Way plastered a completely different look on her face and said,
"Oh, I'm sorry about the confusion."
I faked a smile and said,
"It's okay."
By really, it wasn't. I was so embarrassed. As soon as Mrs. Way turned away, I asked Frankie,
"Frankie, do me and Mikey look like a couple?"
Frankie looked at me and didn't say anything. Deciding that things were going too slow, I threw my arms around Mikey and flashed a smile.
"YUP! ,"exclaimed Frankie.
I pulled away from Mikey, in horror. I playfully hit Frankie as Mikey said,
"Enough awkwardness for one day. On to a new subject."
We all nodded our heads in agreement as class started. After class, I walked to 7th hour alone, seeing Candy and I weren't acquaintances anymore. I flung the door open and didn't recognize anyone. They all looked older than I was. I stood at the doorway, wondering if I should close the door and leave or find a seat. Before I could do either, the teacher exclaimed,
"Ah, you must be Helena Van Halen! Welcome to 12th grade Language Arts! You and Miss Candy Marshals are the only 10th graders I have! My name is Mrs. Thompson, please take a seat!"
She seemed to say it all in one breath. I was quite amazed. I walked around the class, searching for a seat. Then I spotted Ray, who was gesturing me to sit next to Gerard. I walked over to him and found that Candy also sat at the table. Reluctantly, I sat next to Gerard. I felt his cold eyes on me. How could I not feel them when I had first stepped into the classroom?
