"Crykit, how did you talk me into this?"
"But you said you wanted to fight a monster, and I heard there's one here."
Jimmy sighed and continued walking. They were in Dran Forest, in the Elven Kingdoms. Crykit, Jimmy's sister, who had monstrous strength but was as dumb as a rock, had somehow talked Jimmy into going. The birds here seemed to say, 'Beware...beware! You are dooooomed!' and even the trees looked sad. But the path was as good-looking as ever. Crykit walked alongside Jimmy, oblivious. She wore regular clothing, and had long brown hair. She always wanted to look pretty in the morning, even when they were going into the most horrible situations imaginable. Jimmy was always a mess however, and his black hair looked like an untidy bird's nest. Despite being a little skilled in magic and a bookworm, he didn't wear or need glasses.
"Isn't the forest so pretty, Jimmy?" Crykit chimed, interrupting Jimmy's thoughts.
"Um, well, the path is, but-"
"I'm glad you agree." Jimmy whacked his forehead, something he had done far too many times. He carried a bow and quiver on his back, but it was mostly for catching animals in the wilderness, as they lived in tents, unless they managed to get into an inn as storytellers or something. Jimmy was pretty much the opposite of Crykit; frail, weak, but extremely smart. Crykit was also virtually indestructible, and Jimmy always hid behind her when faced with a dangerous monster. Such as the one that was coming out of his dull, lifeless cave right now. His dark, filthy scales seemed to draw light into them rather than reflect it.
"Who dares disturb the slumber of a mighty black dragon such as myself?! I will devour whoever disturbed me! I don't like being disturbed!" he bellowed. /Sounds like he's bursting with pride/, Jimmy thought.
"Ooh, ooh, me! Me! I woke you, mister black dragon sir!" Crykit said waving her arm in the air. Jimmy smacked himself again. Then Crykit turned and whispered,
"I have no idea what he just said, but I think it's something cool."
"Crykit! He's going to EAT us now!" Jimmy yelled.
"Really? I've always wanted to see the insides of a dragon!"
"Crykit, he's going to ROAST US first! I'm not invincible like you!"
"Enough of your blabber! Die, human scum!" the black dragon roared.
Jimmy instinctively jumped behind Crykit just as a line of flames hit her. It was hot, but Crykit shielded him well. This must be the millionth time I've thought of this, but thank goodness for Crykit's indestructible-ness! Jimmy thought.
When the flames ended, Crykit's skin was a little tanned, but she squeaked in a cheery voice,
"That felt so nice! Do that again, mister dragon sir!"
The black dragon's jaw opened as wide as it could, then stammered, "What...that's...not...possible!"
"What's not possible, mister dragon sir?" Crykit said. Jimmy rolled his eyes.
"What do you mean, what's not possible?! You survived my all-powerful dark dragon breath!" the black dragon yelled.
"Oh, I did? That's awesome!" Crykit said, jumping up and down.
"Uh huh. Let's get going now, Crykit. Time to go," Jimmy said.
"So YOU'RE that girl's brother! Let's see how good you taste when you've been roasted!" the black dragon said when Jimmy got up.
"Oooh, I hope you taste good, Jimmy," Crykit said. Jimmy ducked behind her again just as the dragon opened his hideous jaws and spat out another line of flame. Again, the result was the same, except this time the trees became a little blacker(if that was possible).
"Yay! You did it again! Thank you, mister black dragon sir!" She turned to Jimmy and whispered, "Come on, Jimmy, cast ice on him. That should knock him unconscious so we can bring him back to the elves." Crykit was making sense for once. He decided to try it.
"Wait, Jimmy, you do know how to cast ice, right?" she asked quizzically.
Jimmy was about to say 'yes' when he saw something writhing on the ground. Was it...? Yes, it was the black dragon. Jimmy and Crykit listened.
"...she THANKED me?! She actually THANKED me for trying to roast her?!"
Jimmy and Crykit giggled. "NOBODY thanks a black dragon! NOBODY! And she survived my black dragon breath...TWICE!" Even the birds seemed to giggle now.
"Gah...how...not...possible! No...WAY!
Gah...logic...shattered...brain...exploding...the...flowers...are...so...pretty," he finished and fell unconscious.
"Hooray! We did it, Jimmy!" Crykit chirped.
"Uh, Crykit, he's not dead-" Jimmy started.
"Aw, who cares, it's all the same!" Crykit said, an enormous smile on her face.
She hugged Jimmy with her still red-hot arms.
"Ah! Hot! Crykit, let go! I'm not indestructible like you! Ow!"
"What does 'indestructible' mean, Jimmy?" Crykit asked.
"OW! HOT! Let me go!!!" Jimmy screamed all the way back to the elven city. Even the trees seemed to sigh.
