Pain...that was all he felt for the past few weeks. He couldn't remember the last day he didn't feel this pain. The pain was unbelievable. The pain he felt because of Sirius, his only father figure, dieing because of him, the pain of the Dursley's, and the pain of getting his friends caught up in his mess and getting them hurt. Why did he do it he kept asking himself? Why did he let Sirius die? It was his entire fault. Since young Harry, not even 16 yet, had been home for the summer Vernon Dursley had decided that Harry was to do every chore in the house no matter how stupid or insignificant. If they were not done each day then Harry was beaten, starved, and emotionally and mentally belittled. On top of all this Harry decided a couple of times to try and take his own life. The four times he tried he either chickened out or did not succeed. When his Uncle had found out that Harry couldn't even take his own life he thought it was hilarious. The 'freak' couldn't even do it. He told Harry that he didn't have enough balls to do it, and that he was so useless because he couldn't finish himself off. He also told Harry he was a failure...and Harry believed all of it. Harry was forced back under the stairs at times during this summer to show him who had the power of who. One night he was actually allowed out of the cupboard and into Dudley's second bedroom was the night before his 16th birthday. During that night he received a letter that would change the wizarding world drastically. A letter from Gringotts appeared. It read:
Dear Mr. Potter;
Upon the Last Will and Testament of James and Lily Potter you are to be emancipated when you turn 16 years of age. The only way for that may happen is to have you come to Gringotts tomorrow before 1 p.m. Enclosed is a portkey set at 12:55 p.m.
Sincerely,
Griphook
Potter Family Estate Manager
Harry read and reread this letter. He finally had a way possibly to get out of Dumbledore's control, and possibly find a way to train himself to get where he needed to be. Right then the clock stroke midnight and five owls flew into his room. He took the letters and gave said owls food and water.
