Mito

As they cross through the small port town on the way to the countryside, Killua stops. The humble little shops that line the street have caught his eye. There are many things for sale in the town: Food, clothes, jewelry, various trinkets....
It is his fifth visit to Whale Island; he understands there are to be many more. There are times when Killua stops to wonder what his life would have been like, had he never encountered Gon. He never wonders for very long, because now he can't imagine living without his best friend.
Gon's household is very different from Killua's. Or rather, what used to be Killua's; he has not been back to the Zaoldyeck Estate for quite some time. In Gon's house (he almost thinks of it as his house, too) there is... a kind of warmth he had not known before meeting Gon's aunt, Mito. The entire house feels like her.
Mito-san always welcomes him with open arms. She makes him wash his hands before meals, makes him bathe properly after a day of being outside, and makes him eat vegetables. She trims his hair and washes his clothes, pats him on the head when he's good and scolds him when he's done something she finds inexcusable.
She is the same with Gon; it doesn't matter that her nephew -- her son -- is a Hunter. For Mito-san, he is Gon: A teenager who still needs someone to care for him when he comes home. In the same vein, she has taken Killua under her wing.
He doesn't mind. He likes Mito-san -- maybe needs her as much as he needs Gon. Sometimes he thinks of her as his aunt, too, and feels guilty. He doesn't want to take Gon's mother away.
But then, Gon has never objected to the attention Killua gets from Mito-san. If anything, he is delighted for it.
"Hey, Killua," Gon says after they've been staring for several seconds, "something wrong?"
Killua's hands are in his pockets, one holding his wallet. He is looking in the window of a jewelry shop. "Gon... what does Mito-san like?"
