When Gon woke up in Killua's arms, his best friend looked faintly embarrassed. Gon might have asked what was wrong, but Killua had been too quick in leaving the hotel bed and heading for the bathroom. Seeing as how it was still the middle of the night, Gon could only shake his head and wait. There had been more than one such occurrence, and he was wondering when Killua would just say something about it.

When they were younger, they had often shared beds. Both of them had been -- still were -- restless sleepers; they moved about throughout the night, shoving and kicking each other more often than not. The first time a kick had sent Killua rolling onto the floor, Gon had apologized. It hadn't taken long for them to stop excusing their actions; by the fifth night they had realized that they would never wake up the way they fell asleep.

Their positions upon awakening had varied. Sometimes one of them would be half out of bed, sometimes on the floor. Sometimes one of them would be upside-down, and sometimes the two of them would wake entangled. Neither of them had thought anything of it: They moved around when they slept; things were bound to happen. They'd been happening for years.

So why was it suddenly a problem?

Gon had thought about asking again. After all, Gon had always felt as though he could talk to Killua about anything and everything. However, asking why Killua looked embarrassed or guilty had earned him nothing but a muttered reply that could have meant anything.

Finally frustrated, Gon had turned to his other closest friends just the day before. Both Leorio and Kurapika had been puzzled when Gon had met them for coffee without Killua, but once he'd relayed the problem, he saw something in their expressions change.

"Well," Leorio had said. "It's about time."

Gon might have figured out the meaning behind those words on his own, but what propelled him into understanding were Kurapika's actions. The table hadn't been that big; he'd noticed how the Kuruta kicked Leorio lightly with his foot. Gon had excellent ears, something his friends sometimes forgot about, and so the blond's whispered "Don't rush them!" hadn't gone unheard.

He was older now, no longer so oblivious, and he understood. "Everything about the two of you is natural," Kurapika had reflected, staring into his cup. "It just happens."

Gon was still thinking about that when Killua returned from whatever it was he'd been doing. He feigned sleep when his best friend climbed back into bed, continued until he was certain Killua had fallen back asleep.

"It just happens."

He closed the distance between them, and wrapped his arms around Killua, holding his friend much how he'd been held earlier.

Gon was tired of waiting.
