Scars are souvenirs you never lose
The past is never far

Kakashi is covered with scars. His team wonders if that’s why he dresses so conservatively, but he’s not saying. There is one scar that is common knowledge, and his students know it’s that one that means the most to him. They wonder why, but he’s not talking.

Sasuke has a few scars. He doesn’t care if anyone notices, but there are two he hides from his teammates. Left by a senbon, one helps remind him that he cares. The other, on his neck, reminds him that caring will only get in the way of his quest for power.

Sakura’s scars are, thus far, all internal. Because her teammates protect her, because she is weak. But she cut her hair in a desperate bid to save them, and that’s a scar the she loves and hates and reminds her that her friends are worth anything.

Naruto doesn’t have any scars, and never will. Even the place where he sliced his hand open in a panic is unmarked. He wishes he could have scars, not because he thinks they look cool, but because he doesn't want to forget, ever.
