My Marine
By WickedQueenAvice

He's gone in a month, far from home
Off across the sea, and hundreds of miles of land
Keeping me warm in my blanket of freedom
While giving up his own.

I have his dog tags and I keep them close
I'll wear them till he gets back
And that yellow ribbon holds new meaning for me
I'm hating every minute of it, but I'm right next to him.
Its what he chose

I'm smart enough to know it won't keep him any safer
But for all the miles between us, it keeps us connected. Closer.
Gone a month now, and all I have are memories to visit in the night.
I wake up everyday, he is the first thing on my mind.
Is he ok? Is he alright?

He's mine, my marine.

To my own reflection, that girl in the mirror;
I tell her to be strong.
Your tears won't keep him from harm.
He's stronger than I am, I can be tough too.
But I'll worry till I have him held tight in my arms.

I know why he does it, he says he gives up his life
and he does it to keep mine safe
The one who kisses me at night and hugs me in his arms tight
The one who knows war is an ugly but nesessary thing.

God, if you're there, hearing me tonight;
Keep my marine safe
Watch over him with love, warmth, mercy and grace

My Marine.

He keeps me in wide-eyed wonder in this great unknown
Not much longer now he's here with me now
He shines like the stars, its amazing how happy we are
Letters and phone calls keep up together
Making us stronger than before
Won't be much longer now till he's back at home

His voice brings comfort to my always worried mind.
And its getting closer till I'm with him all the time.

Keep him safe, keep him strong
He's my marine, till he's back here where he belongs.
