Casey smiled as Pete laid his head on her shoulder as they laid together in her bed, with Jasper at their feet, purring quite loudly. “Sorry I had to leave you this morning,” she whispered as he kissed the curve of her shoulder. “I felt so bad for having to do it.”
“Hey, it’s okay,” he said softly as he ran his hand through her hair, smiling when he saw her smile. “I don’t know how many times I’ll end up doing it to you if my work calls at some odd time, so you have one on me for now,” he chuckled.
Casey chuckled softly when Jasper uncurled from his ball and stretched before walking up and standing on her arm, looking at Pete. “You nut ball, go lay down,” she smiled, giggling softly when she saw Pete’s hand, the one not tangled in her hair at the moment, pet the kitten’s back. “Don’t encourage him,” she grinned.
“But he’s cute,” Pete chuckled as he continued to play with her hair while he lightly rubbed the side of the cat’s head, making him purr louder, as if it had been possible. “And he really isn’t bothering us, so it’s cool.”
Casey nodded slightly, trying to keep his hand in her hair as much as possible. She gave a blissful sigh and lightly pressed back against him as Jasper jumped up on her side and began kneading. “I saw Patrick this afternoon...”
“Did you?” Pete asked, completely oblivious to that little fact.
“Mhm, he was at the book store,” she answered, “looking for a book for his girlfriend.” She chuckled softly. “He was surprised to see me there, and I was surprised to see him.”
“Yeah, I forgot to tell them where you worked,” he answered, kissing her neck softly. Probably thought I was lying, he thought with an inward shrug as he slid his arm under Jasper, who looked at him with a slightly annoyed kitten glare before he laid on Pete’s arm. Pete chuckled. “He didn’t mention that he saw you...”
“You talked to him?” Casey asked, closing her eyes when his fingertips began rubbing slow circles on her scalp.
“Yeah, while you were still at work... He called me up and we met up at a coffee place to talk things out...”
“Did everything get worked out?”
“Mhm,” he said as he kissed the back of her head.
“Good,” she smiled as Jasper jumped down from her side, and Pete’s arm, and off the bed before he scurried out of the room. “The last thing I want for you right now is for you to be having problems with your friends.”
Pete smiled. “I love it when you call them my friends, and not my band mates...”
Casey giggled and moved away from her boyfriend’s arms before she turned over to face him. She kissed him softly. “Babe, they are your friends, and your band mates. But the way I see it is this... A friend is someone you hang with even when nothing is going on with the tours, or shows in general. You have a personal connection outside of your job. A bandmate is someone you perform with, but have no actual connection with when nothing is going on. The guys are the first one,” she smiled.
Pete smiled and slid his arm around her waist as he kissed her softly, tangling his free hand in her hair again.
Casey let him pull her close, enjoying the closeness of his body against hers. When he broke the kiss and rested his forehead against her own, she smiled and closed her eyes. “I’m glad I can say things that make you happy Pete,” she whispered.
“I’m just glad I walked into that bookstore,” he chuckled as he ran his fingers through her hair. “Casey...?”
“Yeah Pete?” They broke apart and looked at each other, but Pete looked nervous when Casey look at him. “You okay hon?”
“Um, Mom and Dad, kind of want to actually meet you... Like, I know they met you in passing and all, but Mom is asking nicely to meet the new girl, while Dad is demanding...”
“So, what’s the problem?” Casey asked, slightly scared that he seemed so bothered by something that normally she wouldn’t be all that afraid of.
“Um, Dad’s a bit harsh and close-minded, so I’m worried about how he’s going to treat you,” he answered, looking into her eyes. “I know Mom’s going to love you, you’re the kind of girl she always wanted me to get with, but Dad might say something...”
“L-Like what?” She asked. “What would he have anything to say something about?”
“Dad’s notorious for finding things to say about people to push every button possible to try and push them away from me if they’re not really with me for the money,” Pete said with a sigh and a look on his face that read he hated to say what he was.
“Do you think I’m only with you for your money?” She asked softly.
“Oh God, no baby,” he said, hugging her tightly. “Baby, I know you don’t want my money, or my spotlight attention. I know you don’t. But Dad’s always harsh and rude, pretty much an asshole until he decides someone is worth his son... And I wouldn’t want to scare you, but I want you to be prepared for how he might end up being if you do decide to come over for dinner...”
“I see,” she said softly as she weighed everything in her mind. She wanted to meet his parents, but she feared parents of people she dated, until they accepted her at least. After that it was smooth sailing for her parent nervousness. But until then... She sighed softly. “Although I’m scared shitless of your Dad, I’ll meet them Pete, for you,” she smiled weakly.
