[Just wanted to say really quick that when referring to Pete's Dad, I will be calling him Peter and Pete, of course, will be called Pete. Unless it's obvious his Mom is calling him Peter like all moms do.]
“Casey...?”
“Yes Pete?”
“I have something to tell you...”
Casey chewed her lip as Pete drove her to his parents’ home, dreading every mile close they got to the destination. Tonight his Dad was going to try meeting her again since her and Pete were headed to the seven month mark in their relationship. And she would be meeting Hilary Wentz, his sister. She had been invited to another family dinner had been what Pete had to tell her, and she had slightly been hoping for something else.
For the past two months she had been looking for some type of sign that he felt the same as she did, aside from the closeness they shared. She was scared of how close she was letting herself get to him, scared of what she was starting to feel for him, but when she felt his hand rest on her thigh it made her smile. She looked at him as he looked over at her at the red light and she moved her hand to his, giving it a small squeeze.
“Are you doing okay over there?” Pete asked, obviously concerned about her overly quiet nature. Then again, he couldn’t blame Casey for being nervous about seeing his Dad again, especially after the last time they met. That last dinner had been a disaster.
“Yeah, I’m fine,” Casey answered, giving him a small smile. “I’m just nervous, that’s all.”
“It’s going to be okay this time Casey,” Pete said as he started driving when the light turned green. “Mom has Dad promising to be on his best behavior. Besides, we’ve been together long enough for him to realize it wasn’t just a quick thing he thought it would be.”
Oddly enough his words comforted her and she nodded to let Pete know so before she looked out the window of his Ferrari. “Pete, to be honest, I’m scared of him, scared of what he’ll say... But I believe you that your mom has him promising to be nice this time.”
Pete smiled to himself as he turned onto his parents’ road, trying not to lose his nerve when he saw four cars already there. He easily recognized the cars of his mom, his dad, his brother, and finally, his sister; the only one Casey had yet to meet and he was worried how the meeting would go. He pulled onto the curb and turned off the car, looking at Casey who was looking out the window at the house she hadn’t been to since his father had insulted her. “Not too late to back out hon,” Pete said softly.
Casey shook her head. “No Pete. I can do this,” she replied, looking over at him with a smile. “It’ll be fine.”
Pete got out of the car at the same time as Casey and pressed the alarm button on his keyless entry, listening to the -chirp-chirp- of his Ferrari’s alarm. He took her hand in his, entwining their fingers as the two walked to the front door of his parent’s home. “If there is a point you want to leave at, just tell me and we’ll go. No matter what baby.”
Casey only nodded when her and Pete stepped onto the porch and Pete opened the door, walking in. She smiled slightly when he announced, quite loudly, that he was home. Their hands separated when his mom came around the corner and made a beeline for Pete, the two embracing tightly. When his dad came around the corner, he gave her a quick look, to which she gave small smile and polite nod. She hid her disappointment when he lifted a brow and went to his son, hugging him when his wife let go of Pete.
“It’s so good to see you again Casey,” Mrs. Wentz said as she turned her attention to Casey. She smiled and pulled her into a hug, bringing her arm up to pat her shoulder softly. “I’m glad you could join us tonight.”
“I’m glad I was invited back,” Casey said, smiling at Pete’s mom. “Thank you for doing so by the way.”
“Of course Dear,” Pete’s mom said as she lead Casey into the kitchen saying something about Andrew and Hilary, which left Peter Lewis Kingston Wentz III alone with Peter Lewis Kingston Wentz II, the two locking eyes.
“Remember what you promised Mom,” Pete said, earning a scoff from Peter. “I mean it. We’ve made it this far together and I’m not going to sit by and watch this time while you hurt her.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll be nice to the little fat bitch’s face, but behind her back, she’s fair game,” Peter said as he headed to the living room, leaving Pete standing alone.
Pete stared after his dad’s back and made his way to the kitchen where Casey was being introduced to his sister. Apparently Hilary was cooking with their mom tonight, hence her her being in the kitchen when Casey was brought in. After they shook hands, Pete slid his arms around Casey’s waist from behind and laid his chin on her shoulder, kissing her cheek. “Well you can officially say you’ve met all of my immediate relatives,” he said to her when she turned her head and looked at him.
Casey smiled and shook her head. “That I have,” she replied and looked at his sister. “It is nice to finally meet you Hilary.”
“It’s nice to finally meet you too Casey,” Hilary said, smiling at Casey, though she glanced at Pete before looking back to his girlfriend. “I’ve heard a lot of nice things about you from my mom and Andrew. But Pete-”
“Loves you very much,” Pete cut in, shooting his sister a look to shut it even though his mouth had a smile. “And has trouble getting in touch with you when you’re too busy-”
“Working to pay her bills,” their mother cut in, shooting them both stern looks before fixing a happy smile at Casey. “Try to never have children, especially not three,” she said, which made Hilary and Pete make a little surprised noise together, while Casey giggled softly. “They tend to cause migraines that no amount of pain pills can help.”
“I’ll keep that in mind Mrs. Wentz, thank you,” Casey said as Pete moved off of her and moved to his mom, hugging her.
Pete hugged his mom and looked at her. “Even though I cause migraines-”
“And huge hospital bills from jumping off the first story roof,” Hilary cut in.
Pete shot a glare and smiled back to his mother. “You know you love me.”
“Like another hole in the head,” Hilary giggled, earning a look to stop from their mom.
“Welcome to a day at the Wentz house hold when Pete encounters Hilary,” joked a voice from behind Casey, so close and sudden it made her jump slightly, making Andrew, who had been the one to pop up behind her, laugh. “Sorry,” he said through his light laughter. “Didn’t mean to scare you.”
Casey turned and looked at Andrew with a small shrug, though she was blushing from being made to jump. “It’s okay Andrew,” she said.
“Well you guys, dinner still has another hour to it,” Mrs. Wentz said, cutting into the potential fight between Pete and Hilary, and Andrew’s possible teasing of Casey’s newly red cheeks. “Hilary, you can talk with Casey during and after dinner,” she said before looking at Pete. “Go on ahead and take her up to your room Pete. Give the poor girl a chance to cool her face.
“Thanks Mrs. Wentz,” Casey said with a genuine look that thanked her immensely before Pete took her hand in his and led her out of the kitchen and headed up to his room with her.
