Prologue
“Mom, please. It’s so cold out; I don’t know how much longer I can go on. Please mom. I’ll sleep in the garage if I have to, just don’t leave out alone like this; I’m your flesh and blood. I walked ten kilometers to get to this point, mom!” I yelled weakly.
January’s harsh bitter wind tore through my flimsy jacket, permeating through my skin as I fought back tears. Watching her through the ice-covered glass, I shoved the twenty dollars she gave me into my jean pockets and started to clumsily walk backwards through my frozen shoes, my feet devoid of all sensation and pressure.
The lights in the house went out.
The tears fell as quickly as they were frozen. Any strength I had left disappeared with the blistering wind as the realization of my predicament dawned. There was no one out there that cared.
I was completely and utterly alone.
