"So, the first renunciation," the man began, hesitant. Without raising his eyes from his newspaper, his master struck out with his fan and squashed a fly. The man blinked, and glanced down at his list. He cleared his throat.

Still ignoring him, his master took a drink from the can of beer at his side and pulled out a cigarette. His lighter failed. The man found another in his pocket and lit it for him. His master inhaled deeply, closing his eyes, and exhaling, finally looked up at him. "What do you want?"

"Ah, I am enlightened," he said.
