Chapter 21: Moving In

Tuesday Bobbie got a phone call from the Social Worker. “Bobbie are you ready for Eric tomorrow?” “Everything went through?” “Yes, no problem at all.” “I can’t believe it?” “When can you pick him up?” “After school. We get done at 2:30.” “Alright. Can you be at 392 Plum Street at 3:30?” “Sure. Can I give you the adoption papers then?” “Yes. We’ll see you then.” “Bye.” She went into Eric’s room. She couldn’t believe tomorrow he would be here. She got him a few more toys and some more clothes. She even put up a Fall Out Boy poster up for him. She cleaned up a little and went to bed.

Wednesday morning she got dressed and went to school. Eric couldn’t concentrate. He knew he would be living with Bobbie. After school he went to the foster home. The people there were alright considering how foster homes go. A hour later Bobbie came to the house on Plum Street. “Hello. I’m Bobbie.” “Hi, Gina is here. Come in.” Bobbie walked into the home.” Hi Bobbie. How are you?” “Good. Here is the paperwork.” “Okay. I’ll call you the beginning of next week to set up an interview date. You will need to come with anyone who lives in the home, including Eric.” “Alright.” "Let’s get Eric.” Bobbie and Gina went upstairs and knocked on a bedroom door. “Come in.” “Eric, are you ready to go with Bobbie?” “Yes.” He grabbed his suitcase and they left the home. “Are you excited?” “Yeah.” He was looking out the window. “Are you alright?” “Just sad about my dad. I went to the funeral yesterday.” “Oh my, Eric why didn’t you tell me. I would of come. I promise you things will start to look up. I know it doesn’t seem like it, but they will. We will get through this together and with Patrick.” He smiled at her.

When they got to Bobbie’s she noticed a light on. “Okay, ready to start a new life?” “Yeah.” She took his suitcase and opened the door. Eric walked in first. “Patrick.” He ran to Patrick. Patrick lifted him up in his arms. “How are you doing, buddy?” “Alright. Are you staying for good or do you have to leave again?” “I’m back for awhile.” He put Eric down. “Hey Baby.” “Oh Patrick.” She went into his arms and kissed him. “Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?” “I wanted to surprise you and Eric.” “You did. I want to show Eric his room. You want to come?” “Yeah.” Patrick grabbed Eric and put him on his shoulders. Bobbie took the suitcase.

Once they got to the room Patrick put Eric down. “Here is your room. I hope you like it.” Eric went into the room. He couldn’t believe it. “Chicago Bear sheets, Spiderman, and Star Wars. I love it, Bobbie.” He hugged her. “I also got you some clothes. They are in the closet and dresser. Do you want to put your things away?” “Yeah.” Patrick and Bobbie went to the living room. “Nice touch with the poster.” Patrick said. “I thought it would help him when you are gone. He really looks up to you Patrick. I’m so glad you are home. I missed you.” “How is he? Really?” “He seemed alright. I’m a little worried though. So far he’s doing good. I need to tell you something I haven’t told him yet.” “Sure. What?” “I’m filing to adopt Eric.” “Are you sure you want to have that responsibility?” “Patrick, he has no one. I want him to have a stable life. If I wouldn’t of asked to foster him or adopt he’ll be going to a different home every month or two. Do you honestly think someone will adopt a ten year old. Especially with his background.” “Baby, I just want you to be sure. And you are. I will support you in anything. I love that boy too.” “Really, Trick?” She got into his lap. She kissed him. “Will you be able to adopt even if you aren’t married?” “The Social Worker didn’t say anything about it. I meet with her next week.” “If you need any help I’m here.” “Thank you. Now how about a proper welcome, Mr. Stump?” She went to his lips, biting his bottom lip. He rubbed his hands up and down her back. “Um, Bobbie?” Eric was in the room. “She got off of Patrick. “Yes.” “I’m done putting my things away.” “Okay, sweetie. Are you hungry?” “Yeah.” “How about we go to Chuckie Cheese?” “I’d like that.” Eric motioned for Bobbie to bend down. “Can Patrick come?” He whispered. “Why don’t you ask him.” “Patrick, do you want to go with us?” “Sure.”

They went in Patrick’s car to the restaurant. They ate first and then played some games. Patrick and Eric played air hockey, a few video games, and basketball. “Eric, you are just too good for me. Let’s go find Bobbie.” Eric was going to question Patrick about Bobbie first. “Patrick, are you going to marry Bobbie?” “I hope so. I’ve been thinking about it lately. I can’t see myself with anyone else.” “Hey guys, who won?” “Eric. He beat me at everything.” “Awesome. We need to go home now. We have school.” “Alright.” They went back to Bobbie’s. “Eric why don’t you get ready for bed. I’ll be in, in a few minutes.” “Okay.” Eric went to his room. Bobbie turned to Patrick. “You are awesome to him. Thank you.” “He’s such a great kid. He asked me if I was going to marry you.” She was drinking some water and nearly choked. “Are you alright?” “Yeah. He asked me the same thing.” “Don’t you want to marry me?” “Patrick, I think marriage right now wouldn’t be the best. You have been telling me about going slow. This isn’t exactly slow. If I marry, I want it to be forever.” “Me too. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t of brought it up. I should go.” “Oh no you don’t.” She grabbed his arm. “You’re not leaving like this.” “What?” “I can tell you’re upset.” “Bobbie, I’m ready for bed.” Eric came out. “Okay. We’ll be there in a few minutes. Eric went back to his room. “Let’s talk about this after he’s in bed. Come on.” She pulled him to Eric’s room. “Okay sweetie, do you need a nightlight or anything?” “Bobbie, I’m ten years old.” “Oh, right. I forgot.” “Are you two fighting?” “Patrick and I? No honey. We were just talking.” “Okay.” Eric got into bed. “You have a nice night. My room is down the hall on the right side. So if you need anything come in.” “Patrick , are you staying the night?” “No buddy. But I’ll see you tomorrow night.” “Goodnight Eric.” Bobbie kissed him on the cheek. “Bobbie, can I talk to Patrick alone?” “Sure. See you in the morning.” She left the room.

“What do you want, Eric?” “Are you two alright?” “Yeah, we were just talking. Don’t worry about us. Everything is fine. In fact, can you keep a secret?” “Yeah.” Eric sat up in bed. “I’m going to ask Bobbie to marry me tomorrow. I got a ring.” “Really? She’s going to be so surprised.” “I don’t know.” “She told me she loves you a lot.” “That’s good to know. I better go. You need your rest. Goodnight and I’ll see you tomorrow.” “Okay. And I’ll keep the secret.” “Thanks, Eric.” Patrick shut off the light and closed the door a little.

“What was that all about?” Bobbie asked. “Guy stuff. Let’s go on a date tomorrow. Just you and me.” “Patrick, I can’t leave someone with Eric.” “We could get Pete.” “Pete? Are you nuts. He is a 8 year old trapped in a 27 year old body.” “Your right. We could get him and Megan.” “I don’t know.” “Please.” “Okay. I don’t want you to beg.” “Oh, I’ll beg.” He leaned in and kissed her running his tongue across her lips. She opened them. She slipped his tongue inside her mouth. “ “Patrick, if you don’t want to have sex, you better leave.” “I do. I want you, Bobbie. He kissed her softly. She loved his lips on her. He made his way to her neck. “Uh, Patrick.” Patrick got off of Bobbie. Eric stood by the side of the couch. “Yeah.” “I’m thirsty.” “Okay, let’s get you some water.” Bobbie got up and sat on the couch. Patrick took Eric back to bed and came back. “I should be going.” “You’re not mad are you?” “About what?” “Eric interrupting.” “Fuck no. It probably was a good thing.” He kissed her. “I’ll talk to Pete and Meagan tomorrow and call you.” “Alright. Drive careful. I love you.” “I love you more.” He gave her a quick kiss.
