“She made it through surgery just fine. Like I said over the phone we had to remove a very small part of her brain.” “When can I see her?” “In a hour or so. She is still in recovery and will be moved back to ICU. I should tell you that she may have some memory loss when she wakes up.” “Okay. Uh, how long until she wakes up?” “We don’t know. She is the one that has to fight and wake up.” “Alright.” “I’ll have a nurse get you when she is moved.”

Patrick called Pete and told him what happened. A hour later a nurse came and got Patrick. He stood by Bobbie’s side. Her head was bandaged. “God, Bobbie. Please get better. I need you. I can’t go on without you. I tried that for 5 fucking years. Besides the music I didn’t have anything. You were everything I missed in my life.” He sat down in the chair next to her bed and held her hand. “Baby, let me know you’re going to be fine. Somehow. I need to know.” She didn’t move. He put his head down by her side and cried.

~“Mommy, Mommy.” “Hailey, what happened?” “You and Eric were in an accident. Eric is fine, but you are really hurt. Daddy is worried. He wants you to wake up. You need to wake up.” “I want to. I love your daddy so much. I don’t want to worry him.” You need to fight. Fight for daddy. Fight for Eric. Fight for me and yourself.”~

“Patrick.” He looked up. “Bobbie, your awake.” “What the hell are you doing here?” “What?” “What are you doing here?” “You’re my fiancé.” “No. I’m marrying Brody. Remember you slept with Allison and we broke up. I left for Minnesota.” Oh god, Patrick thought. She didn’t remember them getting back together. “Um, I’m going to get the doctor. I’ll be right back.” Patrick went to the nurses station. “Yes, Patrick.” “Bobbie just woke up.” “I’ll get Dr. Aarons.” “Thank you” He didn’t know if he should go back in, but decided to. “The doctor is going to be here in a little bit.” “What happened?” “You and Eric were in a car accident.” “Who is Eric?” “Our son. Well, not yet. We are adopting him.” “Patrick, I don’t remember the accident. Is Eric the boy that’s in my class?” “Yes. His father died and you took him in foster care and when we decided to get married we filed for adoption. What is the last thing you remember?” “I remember Christmas and Brody proposing to me.

Dr. Aarons walked in. “Hello Bobbie. I’m Dr. Aarons.” “Hi, Patrick told me a little about the car accident. But there are things that I don’t remember.” “Okay. I’m going to examine you and we’ll see what’s going on.” “I’ll be back in a little bit.” Patrick walked to the waiting room and called Pete. “Pete, she woke up.” “Thank god. How is she?” “She doesn’t remember us getting back together. The last thing she remember is that fucker Brody proposing to her. The doctor is in with her now.” “Do you want me to come down?” “Could you?” “I want to see her reaction to you.” “Okay. I’ll be there.”

After he hung up the doctor came to Patrick. “She is doing real well. She does have some memory loss. Very limited.” “Yeah. The important part of our lives.” “I’m sorry, but I do believe in time she will get it back. We need to help her. If she continues to progress well I think she will be able to leave by the middle of the week. If you need anything have the nurses page me.” “Okay. Thank you for everything.” Patrick walked to Bobbie’s room. “Hey Babe.” “Stop it. I don’t love you.” “But you did.” He wasn’t expecting this. She was really angry. “Patrick, we may have been engaged, but I don’t remember it. I remember being in love and ready to marry a different man. Then I wake up to being told that I’m marrying the man that cheated on me when things got too tough.”

Pete walked through the door. “Petey, I’m so happy to see you.” He went to her and hugged her. Patrick sat down. Was he ever going to wake up from this nightmare? He should be the one hugging her and making her eyes light up. “Patrick, told me you don’t remember some things.” “Yeah. Last thing I remember is Brody proposing to me. I can’t believe Patrick and I are back together.” She looked at Patrick. “I’m going to get a coffee.” He left the room.

“Bobbie, don’t be too hard on him. He loves you.” “He showed it when he slept with Allison.” “He has paid for that everyday. He wants to be with you. You don’t remember, but you forgave him.” “I still just see them together. After all these years.” “Try and look past the mistake he made. He truly loves you.” Bobbie started to cry. Pete took her into his arms. “I don’t think this is a good idea, Bobbie.” “What?” “Well, I kinda got drunk and said I loved you and I just don’t want you to get the wrong idea. I know you don’t remember.” “Why would you say that?” “I am jealous of what you and Patrick have. Before all this, you guys were the perfect couple. You’ve been through so much, but always make it work. Even though I said I loved you, I want you to be with him.” “Oh, Pete.” She hugged him.

Patrick went to the cafeteria and got a coffee and bagel. “Hey Pattycakes.” He hated that voice and when she called him that. He turned around. “Hi Allison. How are you?” “Okay. My mom is here. She broke her leg and her blood pressure is high.” “Hope she will be alright.” “Oh, she’ll be fine. What are you doing here?” “My fiance was in a car accident. You remember Bobbie?” “Yeah. The one that kicked you out. How is she?” “She is awake, but has some memory loss.” He didn’t know why he was telling her this stuff. “I’m sorry Patrick. I really am.” “The doctor says she should get her memory back.” “That’s good.” “I need to get going. It was nice seeing you.” He gave her a hug and left.

When Patrick got back to the room Pete was hugging Bobbie. He cleared his throat. “How are you, Bobbie?” “Okay. Pete and I were just talking.” She smiled at Pete. Damnit. Patrick wanted her to smile at him like that. “When can I see Eric?” “We’ll need to tell him that you don’t remember wanting to adopt him or loving me.” “Patrick, take it easy. She’s been though a lot.” “You stay here, Pete. I’ll get Eric.” Patrick left the room.

Pete turned to Bobbie. “He’ll be alright.” “I don’t give a fuck.” “Bobbie, he loves you. You’ll get your memory back and know that you love him.” “I know that I love him, but all I can remember is him on top of Allison. He hurt me. I finally thought I was over him and I wake up to him telling me we were planning on getting married. I don’t want to marry him.” “You are going to remember and you are going to regret what you are saying.” “I hope so.”

Patrick knocked on the door. “Hey Megan. I want to take Eric to Bobbie.” “He’s in the guest room. How is she?” “Good. Except she can’t remember us getting back together.” “Oh Patrick. I’m sorry.” “The doctor thinks she’ll remember though.” “That’s good. Eric really misses you both.” “I miss him too. I’m going to get him.” Patrick walked down the hall to the guest room. “Hey Eric.” Eric was reading. “Hi daddy.” He ran to Patrick and gave him a hug. “How’s mommy?” “She’s awake and wants to see you.” “Really?” “I need to tell you something though. Mommy doesn’t remember some things. She doesn’t remember wanting to adopt you or that her and I were going to get married. She remembers that she is your teacher. The doctor thinks she will get her memory back, but we need to be patient. Do you understand?” “Yes. Can I still see her?” “Of course. She wants to see you.” Eric got his coat and they left for the hospital.

Patrick and Eric walked into Bobbies room. Pete was still there sitting on her bed. Patrick was hating to see him there. “Hi Eric. How are you?” “Good. Daddy says you can’t remember some things.” “Yes. But I’m trying to get my memory back. How is school?” “Alright. We have a new teacher.” “Um, I’m going to talk to the doctor.” Patrick walked to the waiting room. He just needed to get out of there. He sat down and put his head in his hands and let the tears come.

“Patrick, are you alright?” He looked up. It was Allison. “Not really.” She sat next to him. “Do you want to talk about it?” “It’s Bobbie. I want her to remember. She looks at Pete like they are the ones in love. She won’t look or talk to me.” “Pattycakes, I’m sorry.” She hugged him and he put his arms around her. “Uh, Patrick. Bobbie wants to see you.” Pete said. Patrick broke free. “Thanks, Pete.” “Hope things work out. Call me if you need anything.” “Thank you, Allison.” Patrick walked with Pete. “What the fuck are you doing?” Pete asked. “What?” “Talking with the bitch and hugging her.” “Allison has been alright. She was just listening to me. Bobbie doesn’t want to talk to me.” “Come off it man. This isn’t about you. She needs you right now. Grow some balls and go to your woman.”

Patrick went to Bobbie’s room. Eric was sitting on her bed. “Hi, guys. How are you two doing?” “Good. Mommy and I were talking about things. Where did you go?” “To the waiting room. There was a friend there.” “Anyone I know?” Bobbie asked. “Yeah. Allison.” “Oh.” She looked down. She was hurt. Patrick could of kicked himself. He wanted to hurt her like she did being close to Pete. But after he did he wanted to take it back. “We just talked.” “Okay.” “Eric, you go with Pete. I’m going to stay here tonight.” “Alright. I love you, mommy. See you later.” Bobbie hugged Eric. “I love you, daddy.” He hugged Patrick. Pete came to Bobbie’s room. “I’m going to go with Eric. We’ll see you guys tomorrow.” “Bye Pete.” Bobbie said.

Patrick stat down on the chair. “Where do I live, Patrick?” “With me. You do have your own room. We didn’t want it to be strange for Eric. But we both usually end up in one of our rooms.” “How long have we been engaged?” “Just a month. We were planning on getting married in 2 weeks.” “Okay. Do I love you?” “I don’t know, do you?” “I wish I did. I’m so confused. Last thing I remember is loving you, but still being so mad at you. God, Patrick. Why do things have to be complicated between us. I wish we could live happily ever after.” “Me too. We are going to get through this. I promise.” He stood up and sat on her bed. “I love you so much.” “I can’t say that yet. But I really want to get my memory back and love you.” “We’ll work on it. Can I give you a kiss?” “Sure.” She smiled. He leaned down and gently kissed her lips. At the door was Allison. She whispered, “I will get you back, Patrick.”

~Patrick’s Flashback~

~“Tricky, I’m home.” Patrick ran to Bobbie. “How was school?” “Alright. I missed you.” “I missed you too. Come to the bedroom.” He took her hand. “I put some of my stuff in our bedroom.” “I like it. Our bedroom. She took his face in her hands and kissed him. They fell back on the bed. Patrick kissed her neck. He slid his hand underneath her shirt. “Trick, will we always be this happy?” “Of course. I love you and want you in my life forever.”~
