Pulling open the door to my room I looked around at the black and red disaster area. Wiggling my toes on the red cherry wood floor I made my way a crossed the room, stumbling over piles of clothes and the random stuffed animal, to collapse onto my four-pollster bed with a deep sigh, bouncing slightly on the feather stuffed mattress. Dangling my legs over the edge I held my hand above myself as I watched the blood roll down my arm from the cut a crossed my palm, trickling down in a wine-red line to drip off my elbow and land on my pink hello kitty t-shirt. Groaning I forced myself to sit up and walk to the bathroom, stripping off my shirt with my good hand as I walked, and throwing it on the counter as I entered the small room, leaving me in only my sports bra. Grabbing a damp washcloth I began to wipe the blood from my arm and stomach, trying to ignore my reflection as she stood with her arms crossed over her chest, glaring at me.
The first time my counterpart in the mirror started to act weird was on my 15th birthday. I had been looking through the local used book store when I found a witchcraft book. And being the stupid person I am, I spoke some of the words out loud and WHAM! All the sudden I could see things, the small creatures skulking around in the shadows, if someone was up to no good, like the guy who stole my sisters purse once, their face’s are fucked up. And them there was my mirror image. At first she tried to talk to me, but I couldn’t hear her through the glass, so now she just resorted to pointing at things and banging her fist upon the glass, which oddly I could here. Trust me, when I first saw her move I freaked the fuck out. But I’ve gotten used to her, that’s why I don’t look in the mirror to often.
I was startled out of my thoughts by the sound of a car racing down the driveway and coming to a sudden, skidding halt. Walking back into my bedroom I grabbed a hoodie off the floor and zipped it up as I moved to my double balcony doors and stepped outside. Looking down I saw Nixa’s black t-bird. Leaning on the rail I watched as she moved gracefully around to the back of her car to pull some bags out of her trunk. Her shoulder length black hair dancing in the strong, sudden wind that came up. Smiling down at her, I waved as she looked up and caught her green eyes with mine. “The door’s open!” I called down to her. Nodding her head she made her way to the front door and inside. Once she was out of my sight I turned and walked back into my room. I was digging through a mound of clothes on my floor, looking for anything that seemed clean but out of nowhere I felt a chill run up my spine and a stabbing pain behind my eyes. Someone was near the cellar door.
Lurching forward I rushed toward my door and back down the servants stairs in time to see the maid girl Mae leaning against the basement door, her head turned and her ear pressed against the wood, listening for some sign of life. She was a pretty girl, short black hair cut so that both sides and her bangs where under her chin and the back cut ultra short and spiked up. I watched her as she cast her brown eyes on Nixa, who had hopped up to sit on one of the counters.
“What do you reckon she’s got down there?” asked Mae as she turned to look at Nixa.
“I’m betting on saber tooth rabbits.” she said as she lit up a cigarette.
“She wouldn’t do that again… maybe it’s-” Mae was cut off as another female voice spoke.
“I’ll lay five bucks down that it’s giant mutant radioactive rabid squirrels.”
I peeked around the corner to see my sister Bobbi standing with a few bags at her feet. It seemed that she had come home for a while. If I was going to bet on anything it was that mom had called and told her I would be all alone with guests in the house. Walking around the corner I spoke as they all got shocked looks on their faces. “Naw, it’s really a fiendish demon from the 9th ring of hell, come to kill and reap the souls of all who harm or anger me.” I smiled at them, looking at the fearful looks they gave me, which was until Bobbi rolled her eyes and the other two started laughing. Rolling my own eyes I moved to hopped up on the counter with Nixa, stealing her cigarette.
The four of us had just began talking when the two of the guys came walking into the room. Frank was the first to enter, and right now I can remember everything I felt and through out the time I’ve known him. His eyes were the first thing I noticed about him, hazel, but the green had a tendency to over power the gold that lurked in them, sometimes so dramatic that they were almost emerald, and it practically painful to look away from him. But he was one of the nicest people you would ever meet, but hyper as all hell. He had a laugh, well more like a masculine giggle, that was so infectious that if you heard it from a crossed the room you couldn’t help but be drawn to him. Standing short at five foot four he towered over no one, but his personality made up for his lack of height. His hair was dyed black, framing his face on one side, it was cut in what some people call ’devil spikes’, and the one side that he normally had pulled back behind his ear had a tendency of falling a crossed his face while he talked. And then there was Mikey, my first impression of him was that he was very shy and skittish, not exactly the type you would make loud noises near, sort of like a squirrel, inquisitive but jumpy as all hell. What I found odd about him was the whenever he was near anyone shorter then him he seemed to have a habit of slouching low. It was cute. His glasses had a penchant of falling down his nose when he wasn’t paying attention, like they were trying to escape. He was unusually skinny to me, almost looking emaciated in my eyes, but I knew for a fact that he would eat almost anything, at any time. He had a strong chin and high cheek bones and a nasally voice, it seemed most girls liked that, not me so much. He was a great guy and I loved his personality.
Jumping off the counter I told the girls to introduce themselves and moved past Mikey and Frank to leave the room, but as I brushed against Frank I felt a shock like lightning go through me and felt myself falling and then everything went black.
