Everyone's Tale
1 reviewA poem I wrote about a year ago that got published in a professional collection!

My face is covered by a mask of emotions.
A way of life, shadowing the ways I can feel
Neither happy, nor sad, beautiful or peaceful
Just me and my mask
Many have tried to remove this mask
But alas, this mask cannot be taken off
By anyone, not myself, nor my friends, not my lover, nor my hero
Constantly trying to change my ways
To stop being a martyr, to change who I am
That helps a little, but still I fail
I fear that the only way to lose this mask is to lose a person close to me.
The greatest fear of all is that it will be the one whom I care least about
Because I will then never get to know them,
Get to care about them
Get to live beside them
For that is my other fear, almost as great as my fear of my mask
A fear of death
A fear of lost life
A fear of lost love
A fear of me
A way of life, shadowing the ways I can feel
Neither happy, nor sad, beautiful or peaceful
Just me and my mask
Many have tried to remove this mask
But alas, this mask cannot be taken off
By anyone, not myself, nor my friends, not my lover, nor my hero
Constantly trying to change my ways
To stop being a martyr, to change who I am
That helps a little, but still I fail
I fear that the only way to lose this mask is to lose a person close to me.
The greatest fear of all is that it will be the one whom I care least about
Because I will then never get to know them,
Get to care about them
Get to live beside them
For that is my other fear, almost as great as my fear of my mask
A fear of death
A fear of lost life
A fear of lost love
A fear of me
