In a couple more minutes it was completely dark, and a low humming came from the trees. The group grew closer together, and the humming seemed to follow them.
"Fen," Jasper whispered after a while,"I'm going to count to three. When I say three, run."
"Why?" Fen whispered.
"Just do it. One, two --" He was cut off as a large wolf jumped onto the path and knocked him to the ground.
"Jasper!" Fen ran towards him.
"No!" He shouted. "Run!"
Fen and Rain ran down the narrow path blindly, not knowing where they were.
As they ran past a large tree, a hand reached out and grabbed Rain by the shoulder. She tried to scream, but a deathly white hand covered her mouth, silencing her.
Its voice sounded as if a cadaver had spoken. "Speak and you die."
Someone else hit her on the head with something hard, and she blacked out.
