Slap. Bite. Punch. Pull. Crack.
Shake. Squeeze. Twist.
Thank you mommy,
I deserved that.
The day was bright.
The yellow sun was shining,
almost as bright as the blood on my lips.
Almost.
The school bus was yellow,
And it screamed for me to get on.
Beep!
It was loud,
Almost as loud as the insults
You shoved down my heart.
Almost.
Mommy, please stop hurting me.
You don’t mean it, and you can’t help it,
But please stop.
You shotgun bruises on my five foot frame,
And it’s too much.
Stop.
I’ll give you that red, heart-shaped lollipop
That you were eyeing at the store if you do.
I promise.
It’s okay, I forgive you.
Hug. Kiss. Love.
You’re welcome mommy,
You deserved that.
Shake. Squeeze. Twist.
Thank you mommy,
I deserved that.
The day was bright.
The yellow sun was shining,
almost as bright as the blood on my lips.
Almost.
The school bus was yellow,
And it screamed for me to get on.
Beep!
It was loud,
Almost as loud as the insults
You shoved down my heart.

But please stop.
You shotgun bruises on my five foot frame,
And it’s too much.
