remembering why

Friends when we were younger
And back then I knew exactly why we were
(I needed no reasons, you see)
Time stole my memory
And my little heart searched for why
It got tinier and tinier
Each time
(Reasons were required this time)
A second passed
(Disappointed, yet relieved)

Grown up now
(Well, maybe just a little)
And I made the mistake of almost forgetting
How you made friendship so quiet
(No need for words)
Turned friendship into a faith
(No need for whys)
And made me believe in sisters
Not bound by blood

It’s no surprise
How quickly I remembered
When we talked once more
(After growing up just a little)
(Having nothing in common but feelings)
And you reminded me
(In a quiet way)
By going back in time

And so I remembered
And again, I knew exactly why
