First, he wanted the past returned. Desperately. Home, and naïveté, and family. Then he wanted laughter, and warmth, and good wine. Contentment. He even began to want the arguments and stares. And more, he wanted innocence, respite. Purity. Even if he did not deserve it. Then, smaller, trivial things. Wanting soap and silk sheets. Air without the scent of the sea and the taste of salt. A change. All a memory of so long ago. Light and music and freedom. Life. That was what he wanted. That past. That life. Everything. For it all to be more than a memory.
