We both ate before packing all the things that we would need. I walked over to the waterfall that laid in the forest to fill our water bottles. The beautiful water brought back the memories of last night.

I had just awoken in the grass meadow, finding the Darien was no were to be found and that scared me. I was walking threw the forest just a small distance from the camp when the sound of a waterfall caught my attention. I couldn’t help but walk towards it, my instincts taking over my body. When I reached the waterfall, the sight of Darien’s scar was almost to much to bare, it was as if the moment I saw his scar, I felt the pain that it caused him. The way those jagged scars ran from the top of his left shoulder down to the bottom left corner of his back just made me want to cry. The way the scars puckered with a crude thickness made me almost hold myself together. How could such an angel (Ogre to be exact) be hurt like this. And have to be left with the scar to prove what happened to him because he chose to save something that he believed in.

‘ He tried to save someone’s life but was rewarded with a scar to show how he failed in doing so.’ I brought my hands up to both of my temples and placed slight pressure. ‘ I am the key.’ The words repeated themselves inside my head until I felt a hand reach out and touch my shoulder.

“Please, do not believe that the scars on my back show people how I failed. They show people that I fought for the humans lives.” He leaned down and placed a soft kiss against the top of my head. “ We need to start moving if were going to make it to the safe house by the night.” He reached his hand out fore me to grab and when I did he pulled me into his embrace, rapping his arms around my waist. “ At first it seems harsh of Zeus, but after a wile you will understand why he would do such a thing to me.” I nodded my head against his chest in understanding.

“So…” my mind was racing with questions. “ will we be the only ones at this safe house?”

A small laugh left his mouth. “ Now wouldn’t you just love that.” He looked down and winked at me before going on. “ No, my good friend Josh will be there. There should also be someone else but I don’t know if they have made it there quite yet.” The devious smile he gave me made me want to slap him in the arm and walk away but instead I moved onto my tippy-toes and placed a gentile kiss against his lips. He went to make the kiss deeper but I pulled out of his embrace smiling and walking back to the camp.

‘ I wonder how he knew what I was thinking about. Probably something to do with this life line thingy Dan told me about. Ill have to ask him wile were heading to the safe house.”

We were hand in hand, walking north. The silence was making me want to fall asleep. The last thing that we had talked about was my schooling. ‘ Now would be a good time to ask about the whole life line thing.’ I squeezed his hand to grab his attention. Instead of cluing in that I wanted to talk, he also squeezed my hand. I let out a small laugh-sigh kinda thing that did grab his attention.

“Something on your mind my love?”

“ I have another question.” He smiled at me. “ Can you tell me more about life lines. I haven’t really grasped what it is or how it works.”

“Hmm, this will be a long conversation. Are you sure your ready to take on such a mission?” he winked at me and raised his eyebrow like he always did when he was confused or asking a question.

I let out a small giggle. “ Yes I’m ready to take on the ‘mission’ “ he laughed as well before looking up at the sky.

“I only know a little of what a life line is as well, but what I have been told about them is that your life line is basically the title itself-“

“Yeah I know that part as well. Your life line is what keeps you alive. If they die you die. They can also feel what you feel so if you were to get hurt then they would feel you getting hurt as well but only once they realize that they are your life line do you start to form a bond with that person.” He furrowed his brow and cocked his head to the side.

“I didn’t know about the pain part. Is that how you knew that I had hurt my arm back in the Academy?”

“Yep, I was able to feel it for a wile actually. I didn’t know how I could feel it and that scared me so I asked Dan about life lines and he told me. That’s when I started to understand even though I knew that you and me had to have a bond in a way.” I didn’t notice the smile that crept onto my face. “ But what I don’t understand is how you knew what I was thinking about back at the waterfall.”

“The closer we get with each other, the stronger our bond gets. Our bond is quite strong for such a short time of us knowing about it but I can somehow read what you are thinking.”

“You can read my mind!” I yelled out stopping in my tracks and folding my arms over my chest.

“Well only when you let your mind wander. Any other time I have a hard time getting threw to you. Its like you put up a wall that I cant get passed unless you want me to or unless your thinking about me.”

“Can I do the same for you?” my hands were still crossed over my chest but I had a smile on my face.

“Guess you have to try to find out.” Darien leaned in and grabbed my hand pulling me away from the spot were I had been standing. I let out a loud grunt and let my body go limp wile he pulled me across the forest and out onto a street.

“How fare away are we from the safe house.” I looked back and forth down the road soon realizing that there weren’t any cars on the road and that there weren’t any houses to be seen from my point of view. “ This place is deserted.” The roads were split and broken apart from age.

“They have to make sure that the Academy isn’t close to any humans or someone might find them and question what they are doing there.” Darien pulled me across the street to a field filled with wheat. “ Thankfully for us, the Angels and Ogres were smart enough to make the hideout underground so that we wouldn’t be found by any of Hades men and so that the humans wouldn’t ask about us.” Darien let go of my hand and moved to the middle of the wheat field. “Josh broke the signal pad so ill have to find another way to contact him.” Darien raised his eyebrow and flailed his hands in the air. “ How is this going to work when I cant even get a hold of him!”

“Psst, Darien baby how about you try to call him?” Darien’s head snapped up to look at me.

“What?”

“ You know we have this new thing called phones. Ya, they contact people. Lucky for you, I have one of these new devices called a cell phone!” I winked at him and pulled out my phone, throwing it at him.

He made a sarcastic laugh. “ Well aren’t you so smart and all mighty.”

“Thank you for admitting it at last!” I skipped over to him then sat on the ground waiting for him to finish talking on the phone.

“Hey Josh its Darien, I have her.” he nodded his head like the person could see what he was doing. “ Yep, well if it weren’t for you trying to impress that chick then I wouldn’t have to be calling you.” He let out a cute laugh before going on. “ Well get your ass down here so that you can fix it!” Darien pulled the phone away from his head and turned it off.

‘ Wonder what that was all about.’ I was looking down at my hands twiddling my thumbs in annoyance wile. I closed my eyes and let my mind wander. Something washed threw my mind and made me open my eyes, before I knew it, Darien had thrown my phone back at me and a loud electric sound came form behind me. I could hear Darien gasp and when I turned around I found my phone cracked and broken on the ground.

“I… Wait what?” I was looking up into Darien’s surprised eyes. I watched as the hint of fear I had just saw disappeared from sight. “I forgot about that.” I looked down at my hands seeing the blue light that just barely touched my skin.

“What are you talking about you forgot?” his eyes were wide.

“Hades tried to kill me. He went to burn me and my body created this shield again.” I was looking up into his eyes again that were now filled with anger and hate. “ Before I could think about what was going on, I fainted.” I got back up onto my feet but kept my gaze set to the ground. Scared to see the way that Darien was looking at me.

“Maria-“ a loud crash and scratchy sound ran threw the deserted area. I looked up only a couple feet away from us to find the ground opening up into a huge circle and a platform with someone standing on it appear.

“Josh!” Darien walked over to the man on the platform and grabbed his hand pulling him into one of those guy hug things that guys always do when they meet up. When Darien pulled away he looked behind himself over to my and waved his hand motioning me to come over to them. At first I hesitated but the moment I looked up and took in what Josh looked like my heart started to pound.

I couldn’t help but gawk at him with wide eyes. “J-Josh?” I ran over to my, knocking him flat on his bottom. His arms wound around me and I couldn’t help but laugh and cry at the same time. “I cant believe that its you! I would have never guessed that you were an Ogre!” I yelled out pulling away from him so that I could look into his baby blue eyes.

“Darien didn’t tell you?” he laughed at my expression before pulling me into another hug. “ Damn I missed you!” he yelled out.

A small growl came from behind us and I soon found Darien kneeling beside us staring daggers at Josh. “ You have to the count of 5 to let go of her before I tackle your ass to hell and back again.” I watched Josh’s eyes light up with amusement.

He looked down at me and gave me a small wink before yelling out in an overly dramatic tone. “Maria, I want to kiss your delicate face with so much passion you with surly die!” He leaned in and placed kisses all over my hand, wile Darien began to fume with rage.

“5!” he yelled out before pushing Josh off of me and tackling him onto the ground. I watched with amusement when someone came up behind me and tapped me on my shoulder. When I turned around with a smile on my face, everything seemed to stop I gasped and my smile faded into a small frown wile tears filled my eyes to the brim.

“Well that’s no way to act when you see your best friend!” She yelled out pulling me off of the ground and into her arms. The tears were streaming down my face as I let out loud, long sobs.

“Tara!” I yelled sobbing even harder as she laughed at me. “ I- I th-thought y-yo-you were d-dead!” my heart was pounding in my chest and I couldn’t help but squeeze my friend with all the strength in my body in fear that I was dreaming and that all of this was just a way of my mind playing tricks on me.

“ Your such a cry baby, and I thought I was the one that freaked out whenever something bad happened!” I let out a loud snot filled laugh before sniffling and looking up into her eyes.

“ Don’t think you can go ahead and make fun of me! You owe me big time, best friends are NOT supposed to lie to each other about being Angels and then go off and fight some evil ass holes who liked to screw up my life without my permission!” we both broke out into laughter as we squeezed each other before breaking off to look at the still fighting boys on the ground.

Tara leaned over to me and whispered.” You always seem to get the cute yet mildly insane ones wile I get the sexy hunks.”

I scoffed at her. “ Josh sexy? Ewe!” I made a loud barfing sound. “ Darien is way sexier then Josh.”

“Well when you put it that way your right!” she yelled back at me.

“ Wait, your with Josh!” I yelled out.

“Life line.” She winked at me. “ And trust me hunny, it is so not fun when you try to check out hot guys and he’s standing there reading your emotions!” she yelled out whisking her hand across her forehead like she was tired.

“Trust me I know. They both come with there faults.” At that moment both of them stopped fighting and looked at us with such a school boy look that it made me want to run up to Darien and plant a kiss right on his lush lips.

“So, have you kissed him?” I elbowed Tara who’s face turned a cherry red. “Ohmygoodness, you haven’t have you? Tara you so have to do it right now, it would be like the perfect time since were all being reunited and shit! If he doesn’t like it just be like it felt like a good time!” I yelled out pushing her in front of me and towards Josh.

“I bet you haven’t kissed Darien!” she yelled back. I scoffed at her and threw my hair over my shoulder, before catching Darien’s attention and walking over to him wile swaying my hips back and forth. When I reached him I leaned into his chest and lifted myself onto my tippy- toes before leaning in and placing a lust filled kiss on his lips. His eyes opened up with surprise wile mine stayed filled with amusement.

I pulled away from him and turned to walk back over to Tara, my hips swaying back and forth as I walked the short distance. I leaned over to her and whispered back. “ Well now you cant say I haven’t.” I giggled as she made stupid noises to make up for her mistake.

Her face turned serious the moment that the guys reached where we were standing. “ We need to get inside the Safe house before some hunters come looking for you. Ill show you to your room and Josh will show Darien to his.” I watched a frown settle on Darien’s face.

“Tara, I think I should stay in the same room as her. I don’t want her out of my sight again.” Darien moved over to my side and laced his fingers threw mine, giving them a playful squeeze.

Tara sighed. “ What ever, as long as you guys have a room that your content in then it don’t matter to me what you do.” She turned and walked over to the metal platform, josh soon following them Darien and I. Tara stomped her foot down on the circular pad and not even 10 seconds later, we were descending into the ground. The sky disappearing as a metal platter moved to cover the opening.
