Hmm, it just occurred to me that, in a way, Harry's attitude is quite reminiscent of the last verse to "The Star-Spangled Banner", "Oh thus be it 'ere, When free men shall stand, Between their loved homes, And war's desolation...". ISTR that RAH used that second line as the title of a story.
