This is a really sad story. The death of a spouse is pretty hard core, so that would wreck someone emotionally, but I can imagine how weird Gerard would feel the older the daughter got and the more she looked like her mom. No wonder he had been ignoring her ... guys don't always know the best way to "approach" an issue, so they'll just ignore it. So this chapter with the note is pretty interesting - that he's finally come around to dealing with whatever is going on. Can't wait to see what happens here.
