At some point, you definitely have to delve more into why Gerard just couldn't do the 2nd kid and all that.
I'd say, make it another girl! But, making it a boy would be just as good too ... because then that would be really fulfilling to Frank (since he had a real son he couldn't raise in the 1st story) and probably angsty for Gerard ...
And no wonder you write kids so well (knowing where you work and all!)...
