This is a crappy idea, but have you thought about scaring Gerard half to death? Like scaring him so much he has a heart attack or an almost heart attack? I don't know much about medical stuff but I'm sure in his weak condition Gerard could be prone to heart conditions right now.
Great chapter by the way! My heart died when escaping was just a dream. But they have to get him out! They just have to!! Gerard will die if they don't and I will die with him!!
