I do not this JKR had the same proofreader or editor for her books, I believe that the one that did the 5th book did the one that had the Jean name for Hermione and they thought it was wrong also that is one way to explain how the time and date errors happened and that JKR took the blame. Personally, I think she had a ghost writer do books six and seven. Inasmuch as canon is concerned, I don’t know if Hermione’s name was ever printed. I do recall her fumbling during an interview before Umbridge made her toad like intro, and saying Hermione’s name was Jane, and then I read about the name change after the fifth book was released. One of many inconsistencies. ‘Course, that’s what makes Fanfic so much fun to write.
