She's afraid of the dark, her mother's not home..is she a victim of abuse and/or neglect? She seems to have that perfection drive to go along with it..if that makes sense?

Yes that makes sense. It didn't at first, but then I thought about it.
This will probably come up in the next chapter, maybe not the whole explanation of the dark phobia/mom thing, but we will learn more.
