I'm glad you gave us some background on Mona! General knowledge of main characters is usually very imporant in a good story. I'm also happy you didn't add the guys in just yet. Too often people will just throw them in and it won't make any sense. That kinda goes along with the need to establish a background. I love the unique pet choice :) Can't wait to read more!!
