...I don't see how it's unclear, if you only mean this chapter...Hmm...All I can say is that 98% of the time, when it says 'he' it's referring to Gerard. I went back and reread the third chapter, but I just don't see how it's unclear. Should I change the formatting a little? That might help. Let me know.
