The wearisome sound of a forgotten trickle resounded in my ears, waking me from a slumber I hadn’t known I had fallen pray to. Wiping at tired eyes, I quickly scanned the room, my eyes taking in the emptiness. I should have known better than to expect anything different.

Swinging my feet off of the bed, my ears trained on the relentless noise. My brows furrowed as I allowed my body to be led by my auditory sense. Slinking down the hallway like my childhood cat, I approached the wooden door of nightmares, my hand instinctually reaching forwards and pulling the cool brass, my feet already sweeping down the stairs. A shiver ran across my arms as frigid air stroked bare skin.

I blinked a few times, my eyes gradually adjusting to the plunging darkness, the plinking of some unknown fluid reverberating around the concrete cage, surrounding me as though it blasted through speakers. Taking a deep breath of the stale air, I caught a tang of something remotely familiar, my feet instantly decided to investigate its source.

Walking deeper into the concrete box, I could see faint light in the distance, my heart chasing my feet as they raced across the room, my eyes intent on the illumination, coming ever closer.

Reaching my destination, I stood before another wooden door, bright yellow light escaping beneath its confines, the stale glow flickering across the white tank top and pink shorts failing to keep any warmth inside my shivering body. My brain reasoned that light must mean heat, my hand once again grasping the handle and pulling it open. Instantly, my vision was blinded by the harshness of the light that enveloped me, my eyes burning, tears forming as I squeezed them shut against the intrusion.

Instinctually, the light dimmed as if it sensed my pain, paling until it was bearable, my eyes fluttering open. Wiping at the fallen tears, I scanned around the room, my eyes falling on each piece in slow motion until I reached the corner and the source of the irksome leak.

A scream barely made it past my lips before I felt my gag reflex explode, sending me careening heavily to my knees, not daring to look back up at the sight before me. My chest heaved between choked gasps, my eyes watering through clamped lids, but like an accident you can’t draw your attention away from, my gaze again lifted to the horror in front of me.

Chains wrapped around a pipe, ending in handcuffs encasing two hands, wrists covered in dried blood. A head of dark hair fell around heavily lidded olive eyes surrounded in crude purple and blue. A soft groan escaped blood crusted lips as his eyes met mine, the bile instantly rising in my throat as blood trickled from the corner of his mouth, bubbling before trailing down his chin.

“Help Kaelin…please.” The boiling in my stomach finally caught up with me, gathering itself in my throat ready to make its escape.

“Frankie…” My whole body was trembling beneath his pleading gaze, begging me to release him from this obvious prison and I couldn’t move, more blood spilling from his open lips.

“Kaelin…I’m sorry…” His head slumped forwards, his eyes losing their once bright color as the lids reluctantly closed. A scream ripped itself from my throat, my chest constricting as my stomach continued to seethe.

“Kaelin?! Wake up!” Familiar shaking brought my eyes snapping open, the scream still shredding its way through my shaking body and I found I could no longer control the fury of my stomach contents.

Rolling off of the bed, I stumbled into the bathroom, skidding across the linoleum floor to stop in front of the toilet, my mouth gaping as my body emptied itself in great heaves, my throat burning as if on fire. Hot wet tears made their way along my cheeks as I continued to gag. A warm hand rubbed soothingly along my back as I continued to shudder and cry like a baby on the floor.

Pushing myself away from the ceramic bowl, finally convinced that there was no substance left to dispel, I found myself wrapped up in warm arms, gently rocking me back and forth.

“It was just a dream, Kael…it’s okay.” I shook my head, weakly, in protest.

“You died…you died…” Deft fingers pushed my hair behind my ears, bringing my chin up to look into olive eyes that still held the light I had seen extinguished moments before.

“I’m right here. I’m not going anywhere.” Collapsing back into his arms as a new wave of tears erupted, I hugged his body as close to my own as I could as he lifted me off of the floor, replacing our attached bodies to bed, silently praying that he was right.

His breathing stilled in sleep, his arms still wrapped around me as I listened to the lulling noise, the soft hum in his throat. Swallowing my fear I made a decision as I lay swaddled in his warmth.

Tiptoeing across the hardwood flooring, my mind still zipping at a thousand miles an hour over the clarity of the dream which continued to spin around my head like a rerun of a loathsome sitcom, stilled as I dialed the unfamiliar numbers; the shrill ring reverberating through my spine as I pressed the receiver closer to my ear to dull the noise.

“Hello?” Sleep laced his words, but the fact that I had awoken him did nothing to assuage my determination, so clear was the mission in my mind.

“Gerard? It’s Kaelin.” I could almost hear him sit up in bed, his free hand dashing across his eyes to rid them of their sleep induced slime.

“Kaelin? Are you okay?” Ignoring his concern, I knew I had little to no time.

“Can you come over in about an hour?”

“Kaelin, is something wrong? Are you okay?” Flicking my eyes to the still bare staircase, I felt familiar anxiety rising in my chest.

“I’m fine. Can you come?” I imagined his dark eyebrows furrowed in confusion, inklings of apprehension drawing out his answer.

“Yea, I’ll be there.” I nodded my appreciation, ushering the phone back to it’s cradle, my eyes once again locked on the staircase as I heard the bedroom door shut, footfalls in the hallway. Knowing I had exactly twelve seconds before he came into view I scrambled into the kitchen, my arm already reaching for the coffee machine.

Warm arms wrapped around my waist, his hot breath tickling my neck as shivers ran through my body, my eyes fluttering shut momentarily at the sensation.

“Good morning.” Smiling my reply, I relaxed further into this unexpected embrace, fleetingly concerned that I might still be dreaming.

His grip on my waist tightened slightly, using his fingers to spin my body around in his arms.

“Kael, I want to talk about last night…” His chest swelled briefly, my own pressed comfortably against his warmth, a feeling I had missed more than I would have liked to admit. “I just…I want you to know that I’m going to deal with it.” A nod offered a response, my mind wrapping around is words. “I want you to understand that I’m doing this for you. For us. Whatever happens, I mean, maybe I should have said this before…I love you Kael. You know that right?” I couldn’t stop the tightening in my throat, the treacherous tears that brimmed behind my eyelashes, eager to spill over their barrier once again. “I’ve always loved you, I was just, I don’t know, scared I guess. Stupid, more likely, but I do love you, that’s why I’ve done what I’ve done.” The pad of his thumb swept across my cheek, catching my tears into the palm of his hand, just like me. “I don’t want to kill her Kael…I didn’t want to kill any of them, not really. I just don’t ever want you to hurt, not like before.” My emotions were on hyper drive, brimming to the top and ready to overflow as I threw my arms around his neck, burying my face into his neck, his scent invading my nostrils.

“I’m sorry Frankie. I love you. I love you.” The soft rub of his hand across my back brought a copy of the dream screaming back and I knew, in that instant, what my answer would be.

Well, I hope this helps to at least get the ball rolling on answering some questions, though I'm sure it creates more! haha
Either way, I hope you liked it! I'm pretty happy with this chapter, I think.
