From the moment Evelyn had answered the phone, he could tell there was something wrong.
But when Evelyn revealed she was pregnant, Brendon not only found himself speechless, but he had
found himself, in a word, scared.
He had left her a note to warn her of this so she could act accordingly!

He was nowhere near ready to raise children.
Nowhere near ready to marry - he'd even rejected relationships for the fear things would get too
serious and someone would get hurt.

Evelyn didn't even live in the same country as him. How was he going to help her raise the child and keep his thriving music career, considering most of the gigs were on his side of the world? He would never expect her to pack up her life and move countries for him, and he hoped her thoughts leaned the same way.

The show had gone well despite the nagging thoughts in the back of Brendon's mind. The set was warmly welcomed by the masses of adoring fans who sang along loudly and bounced and jerked much like the ocean.
After the show, Jon commented on Brendon's subdued disposition this evening, and asked if there was a link it and the call before the show.
Shooting Jon an expressive look, he admitted it was, but refused to delve deeper.
"Just right this second, its not something I want to talk about," Brendon explained, scratching the back of his neck uncomfortably.
"Well, who was it?"
"Evelyn.."
"Oh really? Trouble in paradise?" Jon teased. Brendon cringed.
"That's the understatement of the year," he muttered, grabbing a towel and heading off to shower.

Freshly showered, Brendon sat back on the couch, finding the courage to call Evelyn.
He moved quickly before he lost the courage.
She answered the phone softly, almost reluctantly.
"Hello.."
"Hey Ev."
"How was the show?"
Brendon sensed the awkwardness in her voice.
"Yeah, it was awesome, as usual."
Evelyn chuckled softly. "Yeah you guys are pretty awesome."
There was silence for a moment, then they both tried to speak at once.
"Bren-"
"Ev-"
"You go first," Evelyn said first. Brendon took a deep breath.
"I don't know what to say..."
"Sure you do, this is where you run. And to be honest, I don't blame you. If I could run, I would, but there is no other options for me. I can do this on my own."
"Ev- wait," Brendon protested.
"What?"
"I don't want you to do it on your own - you shouldn't have to."
"Well, from where I sit, I'm not seeing much choice."
Damnit, Evelyn was pushing him away.
"Evelyn - I want you in my life, I want our baby in my life. Even if we aren't actually together."
Evelyn was silent, but he could hear she was crying.
"I hate doing this by phone," she commented, "I want to see you."
Brendon's lips curled into a small wistful smile.
"Yeah, its been a while, hasn't it?"
