-Chapter 03-
"Can I get you anything else," the waitress
asked Irvine, ignoring Selphie's glare.
"Yeah," Irvine smiled. "we're trying to find
someone who used to be in the Galbadian Army
about twenty to twenty-five years ago."
"And what would you ask them if you found 'em?"
Selphie turned to look at the man behind her
who had spoken.
"About Experimental Matrix Project 4."
The man got up and motioned Selphie and Irvine
to follow.
"The Galbadian Army wanted to produce prime SeeD
candidates," he told them, once they got to his
place. "They hoped to influence SeeD toward their
side by having most of its members from here."
"I didn't even know there were women in the
Galbadian Army back then," Selphie commented.
"There weren't." the man told them. "E.M.P. 4 was
an artificial womb. Implanted in a soldier, it
would allow him to bear a child. There were over
a hundred attempts. Only one pregnancy took. Poor
Laguna. He was so attached to that baby. Loved it
right up until the day it was delivered. Broke his
sweet little heart when it was stillborn and all."
"Laguna?!" Selphie exclaimed. "You don't mean Laguna
Loire?"
"You've met him, then." the man smiled. "Consider
yourselves fortunate. That man improves every life
he touches."
"That's why he was so upset!" Selphie gasped. She ran
out, dragging Irvine with her again. "Thank you!" she
called back to the old man as she ran.
