Chapter 8 - T h e R u n n y B e I n S t y l e
--- China's POV---
[2 Months Later]
Ahhhh October. My favorite month. Even though the Tornadoes pop out and violent thunderstorms crash this deadbeat town, Halloween has always been something to look forward to. Not only that, but it's also all the change that happens all around me. The temperatures drop, the leaves change, and sunsets are more beautiful than ever. I love fall.
But all this is not the only reason I love this month. Bring Me The Horizon was coming to Chicago on their Drop Dead Tour. My friends finally stopped ragging on me about Oli Sykes and his infamous charms. That meant that i could go to the concert with a guiltless conscience. I was super stoked about it all. Suddenly i heard "Diamonds Aren't Forever" go off in my desk. I pulled my phone out and read the text.
Yo Ladies,
another work day @ the mall.
Meet @ The Big Squeeze on Break.
- Amy.
Ah, The Big Squeeze, the Lemonade Mecca of the Yorktown Mall. We all worked over there since Stratford & Fox Valley Mall were the most popular places to grab a job. We all didn't mind it though. Bridget worked at Tiffany Antiques, Amy worked at The Big Squeeze, Nadia worked at Too Cool, Tegan worked at the Khaki Barn, and Tasha worked at Borders. I had the blessing of working at a sports store, The Penalty Box. Tegan and I were pretty much the only ones who hated our jobs, but I didn't complain about it. Tegan had these two twin co-workers that were complete airheads. She liked to call them "The Clones". I on the other hand, had a boss that constantly breathed down my neck. But enough about that, i had to get ready for work.
My uniform was a black and white referee tee and white shorts. I'm a total freak for black and white stripes, but not when they're vertical. My job wasn't all bad, there were some good points too. I met nice people, i get a good pay, it's just that it bugs me when people think it's cool to play indoor hockey. Oh well, a job's a job, and with the concert coming up in a few weeks, I needed as much money as I could get.
---- Amy's POV----
[The Big Squeeze]
I put on my lemon printed apron and got down to business. Two lemon chillers and one pumpkin spice muffin. I whipped up the drinks and handed the customer his order. As soon as he left, i looked over at everyone sitting at the usual table. All of them looked so cute in their little work outfits, i was thankful that we all worked here. China took a huge slurp of her drink as she looked at her watch.
"Looks like I've got 10 more before work starts" she sighed.
"How could you even work there?," I spoke out,"I mean, you hate sports!"
"Well duh i do," She answered,"but I'm not gonna pass up $8.25 an hour."
"See?! She's so lucky," Tegan whined,"The Khaki barn only pays $7.50!"
"The Khaki barn isn't that bad Tegan, i used to work there" Nadia replied.
"Are you kidding me?" Tegan said,"That place represents everything that's wrong with the world today!"
"Well maybe you should work at the Antique Store with me, it pays $7.75" Bridget offered.
"Ahhh, I dunno," Tegan spoke with unsureness,"I personally can't handle another whiny high-pitched lecture from the clones."
Suddenly a loud beep went off and China peered at her watch. She let out a sigh and got up from her seat.
"Looks like it's back to the Box with me, see you guys"
We all waved goodbye to her and continued to talk as she left for her job. It was another slow day at the Yorktown Mall.
