He races down the hallway, determined to make it there in time. He darts around a group of football players. Damn jocks. he thinks as he runs full speed down the hallway. He spots the door, still open. I made it. Thank god. He slows his pace. He didn't want to seem too excited. He jumped down the steps and walked into the room. "Wow Zen. You're only 15 minutes early. Were you busy?" "Never too busy for you guys." He smiled sheepishly.
"Hey Zen"
The voice of an angel. He blushed every time he heard her say his name, no matter how many times they had talked. "Hey Kara" he said trying not to seem overly excited. She was his best friend. But, deep down, he wasn't willing to settle for that.
He turned to look at her. She was the picture of perfection in his eyes. Beautiful in every sense of the word. She is incredibly intelligent, and talented. And the best part, she didn't think he was crazy like everybody else did. She was a great friend to him. It was...nice. They were relatively close, but nothing too special. Too often, he watched the assholes she loved and adored hurt her and she would come to him crying. As much as he didn't want to he would think 'I told ya so' every time. She is the girl of my dreams. But wait. What am I saying. It's only been a month. I don't know this for fact. But...I don't know...I guess we'll see. Only time will tell. For now...I dream...
He had wondered if she knew who he was speaking of. Needless to say, that nights phone conversation was very interesting.
After the sectional they hopped into his car and drove to the Chinese place down the street. It was the hot spot for late night hang outs after a long day. The entire drumline was there. Or the battery anyway. Zen, the pit captain, was the only non-'drummer' in the group.
They ordered different things but ate off of each others plates. The casual flirting and occasional 'moment' filled the night, causing the hours to pass by seemingly unnoticed. As the time passed the group got more raucous. "All in favor of an all-nighter at my house?" One of the drum captains yelled. The entire battery cheered except Kara. Zen knew why. He remembered the tough times she had while with him. She still hadn't completely recovered, even after the 2 boyfriends she had been with since. The group paid for their food and walked outside of the restaurant. "You guys coming with? It's gonna be fun!" The other co-drum captain said. "No we're gonna turn in. I might stop by after I take her home." Zen said
