“Kaycie I swear if you don’t hurry the heck up I’m gonna kill you. We cant be late or we wont be able to go to Jamaica, and if I miss Jamaica I’ll be Jamaican you crazy this whole summer.” I say into the phone hauling my luggage into the truck of my black mustang GT.
“Brooke just chill ok. I’m loading the bags into the trunk of the cooper right now.” I sigh.
“What was that sigh for by the sound of the strain in your voice your loading your bags too.” she got me there and she knows it.
“You got me there. Now go and get Austin or should I say your luuurver boy and meet me at the docks.”
“Fine but he isn’t my luuurver boy. He doesn’t like me like that…..at least not yet.”
“That’s my girl make him want you. Meet you there in twenty.” I flip my phone shut, shut the trunk and get into the car and head to the docks.

I pop the truck and start to get my luggage out of the trunk when someone asks, “Do you need any help Brooke?” I turn around and it is Rico Chelsea’s latest boyfriend, he the best one yet the nicest too. I swear I’m surprised I even know his name.
“That would wonderful. Can you grab that little black duffel bag.” he grabs it and he gets a strange look on his face.
“Whats wrong?”
“This sure is heavy for such a small bag.”
“O it has my camcorder and the cords and tapes that goes with it.”
“That is a good idea to bring that I forgot my camera so I’m s.o.l on that area.” we laugh. I grab my two suit cases and he grabs the other duffel bag, that has my shoes in it along with the camcorder bag. I sit my bags with the rest of the suit cases. I check to make sure that my name tag is on my things. Yelp Brooke Jackson. I go over to Nikki to find out what time we are suppose to leave. She is suppose to keep track of everything but I don’t know how well that will work she is just a bit on the ditsy side actually a lot on that side.
“Nikki what time are we leaving?” she pulls out the time schedule from inside of her messenger bag.
“7:30.” she puts it away and goes back to talking to Korbin and ignoring me. As you can tell were not the best of friends but we make do. I pull out my phone and look at the time. 6:45.
“Thanks.” not that she hears me say it or anything. I see a green mini cooper pull up. I race to it. Austin gets out. I run and give him a hug. He squeezes me so tight that I cant breath.
“Austin,” I choke out. “I cant breath.”
He lets go of me and laughs. “Sorry. So is Young here yet?”
“Yelp we got here about the same time.” he reaches into the back seat of the cooper and brings out two black duffel bags.
“Kayc thanks for the ride again I can’t believe that my car just died like that. Well I’ll catch you later hopefully.” he gives her a wink then he is off to find his best friend Young. After of course he ruffles up my hair, and I playfully hit him back.
I look over at her and wiggle my eyebrow up and down.
“Don’t say a word.” we put her luggage with mine.
I do anyway, “Hmmm I wonder if his car really broke down just like that. It was working fine just yesterday afternoon. And you got the call what last night he wastes no time when he wants something.”
She smiles at me. She was thinking the same thing too.
We sit down. Just sitting here on the deck I can feel the sweat start forming on my forehead. The water looks so cold and inviting. I just wanna go and jump in. Of course I ignore it. At seven Mr. Yeldon does a roll call. He makes us attempt to get in alphabetical order.
“Austin?”
“Here.”
“Lace?”
“Here.”
“Carissa?”
“Here.” close my eyes and wait for him to call my name. He has the most boring tone ever. This will be one long trip if he keep this up.
“Nikki?” Finally I’m next.
“Here.”
“Brooke?”
“Yo yo.” I yell. The crowd breaks out into a roar of laughter. Mr. Yeldon gives me a look of disgust. He’s not my biggest fan and I’m not his. I smile back at him.
“Kaycie?”
“Here.” I drown out the rest of the names.
After roll call is done Kaycie and our other three best friends Maria, Bell, and Chelsea come over to where I am sitting.
“That was funny Brookers and the look on Mr. Yeldon‘s face I think that made everyones day.” Maria says nudging me
“And if that isn’t enough for you also got a look from James.” Bells said. James is one of the dudes that I like.
“I wonder what he thought about my lil roll call answer.” I ponder on this thought for just a moment.
When Mr. Yeldon yells, “Ok everyone get your luggage and put it on the boat so we can head off.” I grab my suit cases and my two duffel bags and put them on the deck then get back off with my camcorder. I stand at the bottom of the board platform where everyone walks up to get onto the boat. I tape everybody getting on. Everyone that passes either makes a faces at the camera or at least waves. Then I see James bringing up the rear of the line. My heart starts to race. He looks at the camera and says, “You got a lil something on your lens.”
I start to turn it around so I can look when he says, “Let me get it for you.” He bends down and licks the lens then wipes it with is his shirt “I think I got it for you.”
“I think you did.” he gets on the board and starts up to the boat.
I look around for Kayc and Austin because I didn’t see them get on. I spot them about 5 yards away lagging behind. They are trying to haul Kaycie’s luggage to the boat. I turn the recorder onto them as they approach I focus the it onto Austin’s face it looks a little strained from trying to help Kaycie. Her bags way a ton. He is so sweet
“Come on you guys it’s getting read to dock off.” I get on the board and head up. They finally make it on board. The workers pull out the board that is connecting the ground and boat together and shut the railing gate and latch it. Kayc and Austin were the last ones on go figure. I flip the camcorder over and say, “Jamaica here we come.” I shut it off and put it back into my bag. I go to the side of the railing and look out across the ocean. I start to get an uneasy feeling in my stomach like something doesn’t feel right. I guess I’m getting sea sick. I push the feeling aside.
“You need to stay away.” I jump. I didn’t hear anyone approach. I look over and it’s Nikki.
“You startled me. I didn’t hear you come up. Why do I need to stay away and from whom?”
“Do you mind if I lit one up?” she pulls out a pack of cigarettes and a lighter.
“Yes I do.” she sticks one in her mouth anyway and lights it up.
“That can kill a person you know.”
“So. Just stay away from James he is mine and everyone knows it.” she takes one last drag and throws the cigarette into the water. I stand there astonished she has some nerve. I’m about to go speak my mind to her when Mr. Yeldon says, “Ok people lets go down to the dining hall to eat some breakfast.”
I walk over to my friends but on the way I step on a cigarette and it burns my foot. How did that get there. The wind must of blew it here. “You guys ready to go down and get some grub?”
“Heck ya.” shouted Kaycie and Rico.
We go down the steps into a beautiful dining room that has a giant wooden red oak table big enough to fit twenty six people. I look up and there is a beautiful chandelier hanging from the ceiling. I sit down next to Kaycie and Daniel. I’m making small talk with everyone when my stomach starts to hurt again worse this time there is like a burning sensation in my stomach. I try to take a drink of water but it was not help. I push my plate away. “Are your ok Brooke I thought you loved biscuits and gravy?” Kaycie asks worriedly.
“I do but I have this unsettling feeling in my stomach. My stomach was hurting earlier and I just passed it off as sea sick because I don’t know what sea sick feels like, but now that the feeling is getting worse I know that it is not it. I have this feeling that we shouldn’t be here.” I look at her.
She has a weird look on her face, “Why shouldn’t we be here?”
“I don’t know you see that’s the problem I just don’t know.”
“Maybe your feeling guilty that not everyone gets to go on this senior trip?”
“I guess that could be it.” I take a sip of water. But no matter how many times I tell myself that’s why my stomach hurts I’m lying to myself. I try not to think about it but I do and the more I do the worse my stomach gets to hurting and burning. I excuse myself and go to the bathroom. I rinsed my face with cold water hoping it will work and it does a little bit. I still cant shake the feeling that we shouldn’t be here. I go back to the dining hall. Everyone is talking happily. I sit back down in my spot.
“Do you feel any better?” Kaycie asks.
“Much better.” I say with the best smile I can manage. I didn’t want to lie to her but I just don’t want to worry herself about absolute nothing.
I look over and start to talk to Daniel. To prove I’m fine.
“So, Daniel how psyched are you to be here?”
“Way psyched how often do you get to go to Jamaica? Not very.”
I laugh, “To true I cant believe that the school is funding this. They have never done anything like this before.”
“Ya I know my older brother is mad that he doesn’t get to go.”
“I would be too. Anyway what is the first thing your gonna do when we get there?”
A big smile spreads across his face, “I’m gonna go to the ocean. I’m going to attempt to surf.”
“That sounds like a lot of fun I’ll have to try that.”
“Ya there is nothing like the feeling of-” Daniel was stopped mid-sentence because all of a sudden the boats takes a sharp shift and we all go left. There is a loud boom like a firer cracker. I smell smoke. I start to look around there is smoke coming through the vents. I see flames start to come through the vents along with the smoke. I hear a defining noise it is a scream but from where? I realized that it came from me. I’m paralyzed with fear from what I see. It’s one of the worst things that I have ever seen before in my life.
